A few software reviews...

This program lets you convert big AVI files to something usable or it can rip a DVD directly in about 1 1/2 hour or so. The higher the screen size and higher the sample rates increases file size and time..
Grab the EXE file ... it is easier to install..
http://iriverter.sourceforge.net/download.shtml

In the folder for iriverter when you install it is a folder called profile. Pick any, but the pmp one is easier to fix up.. right click on it and select open with wordpad or word... it will look like

brand=iriver
device=PMP Series
maxVideoBitrate=1500
maxAudioBitrate=192
dimensions=320x240 512x384 640x480
maxFrameRate=30
wrapperFormat=avi
audioFormat=mp3

now you can change it to your preferences...
change the device name so you can find it on the list in the program.
change the max video rate and audio rate to the highest setting you think you will ever use.
Just after the 320x240, add in 480x320
you can even set a max frame rate ( higher sample rate and frame rate gives smother and better picture quality in action scenes.. if you get too high it your hand held will yell at you. )

ok, it looks like

brand=iriver
device=PALM TX
maxVideoBitrate=400
maxAudioBitrate=128
dimensions=320x240 480x320 512x384 640x480
maxFrameRate=23.97
wrapperFormat=avi
audioFormat=mp3

Select 'save as' and save it under any name you wish into the profiles folder,, NOTE it will save it as a text file ( txt ) you have to go into that folder and change the extension from .txt to .profile
in my case it was PalmTX.txt --> PalmTX.profile
Some software will save it as an extension added onto what you started with. PalmTX.profile.txt just delete the .txt part.

Now you will have an added option to your list :)

Run iriverter , in options select bit device, then irivert, then the new file you created..
then you can fine tune or adjust as you work your way down the options.. MY TX speaker or audio to the speaker is not as good as my old palm and I have to boost it :) noooo problem..
At the bottom of the options list is advanced.. select that, then select volume, then click the bottom setting and put in the DB gain you want.
I have used up to 20DB, but remember to turn volume preamp down in the player before you stick earphones in your ear !

If all is well ...like my laptop.. you can select the DVD disc icon at the top of the program, browse to the DVD if it is not already there. It will then gather info about the disk.. from 2 minutes to 5 or so..

In the Title bar, select the title with the longest run time.
( you can play with this when you have time to kill and can pull out just one chapter with the combination ot the title and chapter select.)
In the language bar, select the language you want.. Default is not always english !
You can try to test the vid with the preview button, but on mine the MPlayer always locks up.
Select the output where you want it to go and the name of the movie you want.
The only thing it will not do is kick up the brightness, ( if you have to you can use PocketDivxEncoder ( another freebie ) ( it also can rip direct from DVD and both are MUCH faster than Fairuse wizard )for that, just select the Tungsten T3 for the 480x320 format if you need that size. ) . If you have a sync problem, you can run the AVI file back through and in the Advanced setting select sync.
Go make popcorn :)

Defator by Copera is a wonderful utility for those of you with a creative mind, and a small pocketbook. Firstly, Deflator is a FREE utility. Zilch, zero, nada.. out of your pocketbook. I like that kind of stuff. Deflator is a powerful deflation utility that will compress any file type in your handhelds RAM. Deflator cannot see expansion cards, thus it cannot read or write from them. Although, for those of you who are creative in its use, you may deflate a file in ram, and then using FileZ, move the compressed file to an expansion card. Deflator is rather basic in functionality, as programs like FlyZip will let you launch an app from a compressed file. Deflator, you must first inflate the file, then launch it. But, based on your lazyness factor, this may or not bother you. Deflator also takes up very little room at ~90kb. As with all compression utilities, you must have some extra free memory to compress and decompress your files. For being a free file, this product will do just as it advertises, and with a bit of creativity, this product has become a must have on my device. 5 stars out of 5 stars.

This application should come in VERY handy for Z22 users! :)

I don't know how to put up images on threads (still trying to figure it out) so i'll just tell about this one.

It's called "Less Than Zero". Its a timer, and i use it all the time. You can time anything from one minute to 99hours. When the time is up, it will display a customizable message, and you can add to the time from that screen. Another cool thing about it is that with a message such as @H5, it will initiate a hotsync, or open an app at the end of the time. (more of this in its info file)
You can get it here: http://tucows.com/preview/199967

Requires OS 4.0 and higher and uses less than 10KB RAM.

Kmeteo added disconnect after update. Appears to be only partially functional. It disconnects after you pick a city in preferences, but doesn't disconnect after fetching weather information. :( The weather icons are all present though. :) Looks like the author may have missed checking network status after update, but got preferences ironed out.

Great app! Very nice graphics, too. :newpalm:

hc, are those your fonts displayed in the capts? They look great, and not like the plain look that I see on mine. If yours are shown, which font & displayed with which app, etc? :) (I am clueless and haven't fiddled with fonts yet. :o )

Get DatebookCat here: http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/datebookcat.shtml
Try DateBookCat. It's a freeware utility that lets you easily assign DateBook entries to a category from a list view by simply tapping the entry once. I've used it for exactly what you mentioned: I imported about 4 yers of holidays into my DateBook. I created a category for "Holidays," then used DateBookCat to display the "Unfiled" category and tapped my way through the list to assign the holiday entries to their category. Very handy! It's located here.

DateBookCat goes through all of your datebk entries, and lists them in chronological order for you, displaying all the entries that are 'unfiled'. It then gives you the option of either deleteing them, or assigning a category to each one. You may think you have alot of entries to change, but if you use any templates from the Datebk4/5 software, it greatly reduces the number of items you have to change. This software is very easy to use, it's all point and click. No options to set, no user configs. Neat and clean.

And a big thanks to JRakes for bringing this software to my attention. I've never been one to use the category field in my calendar, as I've never had reason to separate any of my events.. until now. I needed to print off my calendar for one of my friends, but didn't need them to see ALL of my stuff, I just wanted them to see my work schedule.. well, what better way to do it, than to print off my 'work' category.. well.. I've never categorized any of them, so that was going to proove to be a daunting task. Now, with DateBookCat, assigning already existing entries to a category prooved a breeze! A MUST have for those of you who are very task oriented, and like to break your schedule down into work, play, freetime.. etc etc.

Takes ~20kb of space, and now has a new permanent home on my handheld. 5 stars out of 5 for this freebie. Thanks again JRakes.
