A Christmas Carol

Saw it yesterday. Much better than I expected

As long as you dont expect the gurning version
of Carrey and are wary of bringing little kiRAB-
might be screaming at certain bits

Not a fan of motion capture but it makes Jim
Carrey's performance much better than I bet
it would have been if it was live action

Not much comedy in it didnt mind that though

Was good as didnt seems as slushy or kiddish
as I thought it would be. Was dark looking all the
time - only problem I had with it

Plus a few of the 3D set pieces were stunning

Does anyone know how long it is showing for I wanted to go and see it next friday but on the cineworld website it only has showings upto 19th november, hope thats not the last showing.

Cinemas only generally list showings up to next Thursday. Usally on Tuesday afternoon they then release show times for Fri - Thurs.

Saw it last weekend - Cineworld made quite a mess of the 3D and 15 minutes into the movie the lights came on and a member of Staff apologised. They restarted the film then.

The 3D was pretty good, especially the snowflakes. I saw quite a few little hanRAB go up and try to grab them!!

An enjoyable version of a classic story 8/10

Well, on the recommendation of a friend I went to see it this afternoon at Middlebrough Cineworld.

I thought it was very good indeed, especially the 3D effects.

Expected to pay a little more than normal being a concessionary customer since I am over 60 years old, but I still paid

Yep, it's worth noting that, while this is a Disney film, it's a pretty faithful adaptation of Dickens's book and not directly aimed at kiRAB. Most Christmas Carol versions aren't really aimed at children. The book itself is pretty spooky to read in places, and this version gets that across very well. Younger kiRAB WILL be freaked out by parts of it and probably not understand the story much anyway.

Jim Carrey pulled a real blinder as Scrooge. It's a really subtle performance for 99% of the time. Something difficult to do considering Scrooge is an animated character here. His voice as Scrooge is great, though his accents as the spirits are pretty dodgy but funny (somehow this made it more enjoyable for me). Gary Oldman is amazing as Marley (why wouldn't he be? it's Gary Oldman!!). Just think how many times the Marley scene has been done, well this might indeed be the best ever. It's certainly the freakiest I remember seeing. Again there's some humour thrown in but I reckon most people will be too shocked and engrossed to laugh!

Something I was impressed with was how well the last 10 minutes were done. We all know the story, Scrooge wakes up and the spirits have done it all in one night, he tells the boy to go and get the biggest turkey in the shop etc. etc. but this time it didn't seem to be done in just the usual slapdash way. Probably my favourite moment in the whole film was when Scrooge walked into Fred's house.

Morning Sharon87 my friend who went to see A Christmas Carol last week had to buy the glasses separatly. Apparantly some cinemas charge extra, others do not.

Cineworld is becoming one all mighty rip-off these days with numerous price hikes during the past 12 months.

The manager is quite young as well, all she can see is megabucks and a pocket full of dough.

Managers today dont have the same style of customer service and management like the managers of yesteryear, many whom in those far off days worried about their customers ability to pay. Managers today just want profit, customers dont matter any more.

How sad is that?

Went to see this last night and i have to say it was amazing. Hand on heart, i've not watched any versions of this movie i'd read the book only. However this was just great and a plesant surprise.
What i loved most was that you wouldn't have even known Jim Carrey was the actor involved which was refreshing because his comedic value can be quite tiresome sometimes but he was fantastic in this movie.
There was quite a lot of children in the movie theatre last night and to my surprise i didn't hear any crying or screaming, in fact i heard a lot of laughter from children and adults alike.

Was just amazing, really glad i went to see it.

I saw this tonight and enjoyed it. :)

I would say it is definitely too scary for young children: some of the Ghost sequences are more akin to Harry Potter and probably merit a 12 certificate.

However, it remains (for the most part) very faithful to Dickens' story. The animation is beautifully rendered and the 3D aspect is extremely well done

I saw this at the IMAX and it was really good. It is, compared to other versions far darker than I expected. I took my 7yr old and although she held my hand all the way through, she enjoyed the film thoroughly. She is quite into ghostly things though, so other children her age may have found it more frightening.

Finally saw it last night. I enjoyed it a lot, but after growing up on the muppets version, i missed the muppets. The script is very simaler to that version as well. I havent read the book so unsure if they were just following the book?
I found it quite scary and jumpy in some parts. But over all a great film.

This is a very faithful adaptation, even down to the characters' dialogue and the look of the Ghosts (which is how they were originally illustrated). The only parts that aren't in the book are the extended chase and 'tiny Scrooge' sequences.

I thought they added to the spectacle, nonetheless. :)
