"&#-6164;a carte" packages

Only the channels that are within the A LA CARTE section of the brochure, can be added to A LA CARTE package.

Looks like CNN HD is only in favourites or by taking the TOP English or TOP Bilingual.

Bell knows this is probably a 'must have' channel for most customers so they will definitely make certain to charge top dollar to get it.

Same for TSN in HD, which requires TSN in SD.

If you were planning on just taking the Basic + HD themes you would have to give up TSN HD & CNN HD. Just to get these 2 channels in HD, (along with your HD theme packs) you would need to sub to minimum A LA CARTE (15$) and make TSN SD one of your choices + Favourites (5$) for CNN HD.

So you would be looking at:

Base: 25$
A LA CARTE: 15$
Favourites: 5$
HD Themes (4): 10$
Service Fee: 3$

Total: 58$ less 10$ Bundle = 48$

You could also take TOP English or Bilingual instead of A LA CARTE + Favourites. Same price (20$).

20$ more just so you can have access to CNN & TSN in HD. Wow.
Under the old platform you would have paid 10$ more for Digital Standard and 16$ for the two required theme packs (Sports 1 & News/Learning 1) = 26$... So I guess, to see this in a positive light, you are saving 6$ compared to the old way of doing things.

rainbow, is that a fact or just a presumption?
What bothers me is that Toon Retro is now included in the Favourites, while only last week it was in the basic package, at no extra fee.
I would gladly pay $2 just to get Toon Retro, but paying $5 to get the whole package when I need only one channel is a bit too much.
Anybody knows what the situation is?

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

Yes, I'm upset this "a la carte" packaging appears only to be available to Quebec subscribers!

So, my question is, has anyone from elsewhere in Canada tried to switch to "a la carte" packaging? Did you have success? How far did you escalate the request?

By my rough calculations, I pay around $91 per month (plus taxes, system fees, etc) for not just HD and TMN, but a whole bunch of specialty channels I never watch. I could very comfortably move to "30 a la carte" and estimate I'd save $28 PER MONTH! That's $336 per year!

Strikes me that that level of potential savings is something that needs to be impressed upon Bell! I'm not going to pay Bell over $300 per year extra just because I happen to live 2km from the Quebec border...

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

Yup, I made the switch over to A LA CARTE

It just sucks that BET is not A LA CARTE as it is within the Favourites. So I had to add on another $5 just so I can get that as I dont care about any of the other channels within (well maybe Much as I seasonally watch America's Best Dance Crew). The $5 Add-on still made it less then what I was paying with the old based programming, so I'm still a bit happy.

It was also confirmed that my 30% off will also apply with the A LA CARTE based programming.

"Thanks Bell - or should I be thanking Videotron?"

EDIT: I tried to add "Sex Tv" to my 15 A LA CARTE, but they said as of March 1st this channel is no longer allowed to be offered in Canada. Not that I care much for it, I just needed 5 extra filler channels. Is this true though?

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

As I have stated many times in previous posts, the following channels are not available A LA CARTE. There has been nothing from BellTV to indicate if this is will be rectified soon.

Game Show Network
WSBK & WSBK HD
NFL Network

Please Bell gods, let this happen for the rest of Canada. We don't watch a lot of TV but it costs over $80 a month to get the channels we want. I was looking at the "a la carte" list for Quebec and we could easily get what we want from the base $47.00 package. Quebec was first, next Ontario. The rest of the country should follow in 5 to 7 years. Bell is losing a lot of customers in Nova Scotia to Eastlink because of better packages and prices. If it wasn't for the money I have invested in recievers I would leave Bell in a second for Eastlink or even Starchoice at this point.

Vicky, my understanding is that this new platform is to "attack" the Quebec market and compete against Videotron.

It seems that they have included Teletoon Retro in French within the Base package. The old French Digital Standard included Teletoon Retro in French so I guess they decided to keep it in the base on the new platform.

As for Teletoon Retro in English, it would seem like this channel is part of the Favourites package for 5$.

Kind of a shaft for people who want the English version, but they would probably buy the favourites anyway because it includes important channels like CNN, A&E, MUCH etc.

This is how I understand it, again, I could be wrong because there seem to have been a lot of discrepencies between what is on the website, the brochure and what the Bell reps tell you.

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

Soccer, did you escalate and have them open a trouble ticket?

This issue should not be lasting so long...

Took me 4 days to get WSBK with Best of The Best package, but I had to escalate and push push push... (6 calls).

I can't understand how Bell launches this stuff and doesn't coordinate with the programming guys to ensure the technical logistics are worked out.

The online presentation of the available A LA CARTE channels is a mess when comparing Self Serve to the Shop TV page and the programming brochure.

Having the A LA CARTE platform is great, but be advised that it is far from being a well-oiled machine...

For the record, it seems that WSBK has also been a pain for people on the theme pack platform since Bell TV moved it to the Family pack. There is really no logic for this channel to be part of the family pack (aside from ancient government regulations).

Hope they solve your issue soon!

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

The new a la carte packages are not really a la carte. In my case I just want Basic + Showcase HD and RDS HD and maybe TSN HD. To get that I need :

$25 for the base
$15 for the 15 channels when I only want RDS HD and TSN HD
$5 for Showcase HD.
$2.50 for TSN HD

This blows because I couldn't care less about all the SD crap in the $15 "a la carte" package.

They won't give me TSN HD and Showcase HD or RDS HD for "pick and pay" even though the brochure says TSN HD is "pick and pay" available. They are telling me I need to get the $15 for 15 package and choose TSN SD from there to be "allowed" to get the TSN HD on pick and pay.

The a la carte stuff looks impressive at first glance but when you dig in, it is full of road blocks and "gotcha"s.

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

The new basic is not based on the old Digital Standard, but on Base Numerique plus the Partout au Canada channels.

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

The $25 for basic is bugging me. Right now I have:

Basic: $37
Sport 1 theme: $8
4 HD themes: $10

Total: $55. That's a lot since I only watch 4 channels: Golf Channel, TSN, CBS, NBC, and RDS only for Habs games. With a la carte:

Basic: $28
15 channels: $15
4 HD themes: $10

Total: $53. I would only save $2 but I guess It's better than nothing. One thing though, Golf Channel is listed in the favorite, so I can't get it a la carte, but since the HD version is in the same HD theme as Sportsnet HD, I would assume that you don't need the SD version. Can anyone confirm that?

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

Are you totally sure about that? I'm asking because Videotron won't let you have only the Basic, you have to take at least one package, and the cheapest one is $7.

As soon as the British Open is over on Sunday, I'm ready to ditch TSN. Which means I only need 3 channels: NBC HD, CBS HD (both are free with the Basic) and Golf Channel HD ($5 for HD More Sports)

I would save $20!

Basic: $28
HD More Sports: $5

Total: $33 :D

"

True, but looking at your requirements you would have needed (on the old platform):

Digital Standard: 35$
Sports 1 Theme: 8$ (TSN SD + RDS SD/HD)
1 HD Theme: 5$ (Showcase HD)
TSN HD 2.50$ (Pick n Pay)

Total: 50.50

On the new platform you pay 47.50

(You would pay 3$ service fee on both platforms).

That's a 6% discount and you do have the advantage of picking the 13 remaining SD channels of your choice, as opposed to taking what is given to you in Sports 1.

Better than a kick in the a*s, IMHO.

The only way you would not be saving money is if you had the French Basic (Base Num

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

Yes It works... because this what I did when I switch from Videotron to Bell...
Took only basic + 4 HD theme packs. I only added 30 A la carte package 2 weeks after.

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

+1. I couldn't agree more.

All I wanted from the favourites is BET, so I had to pay an extra $5 there

From the A LA CARTE 15, all I wanted were about 4-5 channels, but had to pick 10 more channels that I wont ever watch just to fill it up.

They need to add a A LA CARTE 5 for $10 package and add BET to to list of A LA CARTE.

Regarding HD channels.

Do you think Bell will add some HD channels to their HD THEMES?
Or they will keep the HD Themes with 2-3 Hd channels on each?
