"&#-6164;a carte" packages

I called Bell to ask when the A la carte packaging will be available to the rest of Canada and she told me it is just for Quebec. As far as I am concerned it should be available to all customers. Also isn't the CRTC supposed to make all cable and sat providers have a la carte packages in the future?

For new customers only, if you buy your receiver for $499, you'll get a $200 discount on your TV bill. So you end up paying $299. If you rent your receiver, you must buy a HD activation kit (or whatever Bell calls it) for $100 which will be credited on your account.
The movie channels are a promo, free for the first two months, after that you have to call to cancel.
Hope this helps.

According to the supervisor that I spoke with - there are others and they are looking into it. Someone would have to invest some time in doing a comaprison - but there's no doubt that A LA CARTE does not include all of the channels available on their system. I also wonder why there is no $45.00 price point there is a big jump from the $30 dollar package to the $60 Best of the Best.
There's probably some good ($) reason for the choices they have made. My main reason for wanting Speedvision is the Barrette Jackson auction series, I'm a big fan of collector cars and it's only avaiable on Speed.
I'm not holding my breath on seing it put into the A LA CARTE section - but maybe if enough people make a fuss they will take some action.
By the way how did you get get such a huge (30% to 40%) discount on your package?

Looks like only available in Quebec for now.

I will post the information I get from CS tomorrow...

I spoke to a CSA last week and he told me that the ala carte package will be applied to Ontario shortly and the other provinces as soon as they get all the problems resolved. So I presume it is a wait and see situation.

That might be possible if you do NOT have any rental equipment.

If you do have rental equipment, that the system might automatically have to place a move order where a tech would have to visit the new address.

I can see getting a bundle discount, if you actually have a bundle but otherwise it's just the West subsidizing the East once again.

It's like this, I have Shaw internet but they don't give me $5 off just because I can bundle it with TV and phone. I actually have to have a bundle to get a break in price.

The trick when you call to switch to "a la carte" is to ask then to activate the most popular channels.... then 15min to 1hour after you go on the web and you select your channels!

That's what I did... I was not in the mood to go over 30 channels with the girl on the phone. So I asked if she could set a default 30 channels.

Let's please stay on topic, as the West vs. Ontario pricing has nothing to do with the A LA CARTE programming offered in Quebec.

Regarding A LA CARTE, it seems Bell TV has cleaned up some more of the discrepencies between the Self Serve tool, the Shop TV web page and the programming brochure.

Some discrepencies still exist:

1- WSBK in the Favourites package? Can anyone confirm that this is now working for customers who subbed to the Favourites? It is listed as included in Favourites on the Self Serve tool, but not on the Shop TV page or programming brochure.

2- W Network: This channel is listed as part of the basic on the Self Serve tool, but it is also listed as being available A LA CARTE. On the Shop TV page and brochure, it is only shown as being listed A LA CARTE.

3- CMT: This channel is listed as part of the basic on the Self Serve page, but it is also listed as being part of the Favourites. On the Shop TV page and brochure, it is only shown as being part of the Favourites.

4- W Movies & Sundance: No mention of these new channels anywhere, but I assume that if SexTV and Drive-In Classics were available A LA CARTE, their replacements (W Movies and Sundance) should also be available A LA CARTE...?

It is important to note that Speed, NFL Network and GameShow Network are still NOT available A LA CARTE. No explanation from Bell TV, and quite frankly I don't understand it. Why isolate these 3 channels? It's not like these 3 channels have the largest take rates...IMHO.

Someone also asked me if they could take A LA CARTE 30 for 22$ and than add another A LA CARTE 15 for 15$ for a total of 45 channels @ 37$. Add the favourites and you have 65 channels for 42$. Cheaper than Best of The Best at 60$ which probably contains 30-40 channels nobody watches anyway... Anybody know if this is possible?

I don't understand their rebate offer. Maybe its because I'm not a current subscriber and it works different if you're already a client.

I've heard $5/service/month but haven't seen that written anywhere on their website. All their website offers is a reduced price for 6 months or a year if the service is taken in a bundle.

Not saying its not a good deal but very confusing trying to add up all the costs. Thanks to Trilam I now know that there's a $3/month digital service fee which doesn't surprise me since Videotron has a similar charge.

Makes me wonder what other fees are not advertised. For example, does Bell have an HD access fee or a local programming fee? Yep...Videotron throws that in on your bill!

never mind.. called back and the guy switched me right away. Stupid first CSR.

Under the Favorites section of the brochure, it states...

What does this mean? Additional Channels from where?

Or does it mean instead of picking the entire $5 Favourites pack I can select the channels I want individually from it for $2/month each?

You are right about this and I am wondering why did they do it this way ? It is for the money like you also said... In this configuration it is not actually a true "a la carte" offer, it's a mix with the old theme packages offer.. It's funny, Bell always manage to find ways to make their (potential) customers unhappy...

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

It doesnt seem to be possible since the tool online doesnt let you select two different a la carte packages. Only one possible a la carte is possible.
But what you can do is select 45 channels the price seems to correct itself. I would like to try right now... but my account doesnt let me access the changes online.

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

Trying to figure out how you arrived at $111. I understand the Basic is $25 for current subscribers but then I see + $56 for HD Top Bilingual - says that 1 premium movie channel and 4 HD packs are included - so shouldn't it be $81.00?

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

I'm surprised no one outside of Quebec seems upset that this "a la carte" package is not offered to them. I know Bell TV is competeing with Videotron in Quebec but where is the love for the rest of the subscribers accross the rest of Canada.

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

Small question... is it normal that on the Bell Self Service I see
that A La Carte 30 is splitted in two: A LA CARTE 8 and A LA CARTE 22??
But when I try to change or update it switches to A LA CARTE 30!

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

i don't know if that happens often, but i took le top des tops in french, +basic+the movie network and the channels 255 and 274, was gone. i don't knwo if it is because i took the french programming, but in the brochure it showns that game tv canada was included. any idea what happens?

"&#-6164;a carte" packages

Allthough it seems that some channels were deliberately left out of A LA CARTE, most people I spoke to that had the old theme packs platform were happy to switch over and they all confirmed saving money by doing so.

I will have to take a look at the brochures and see what other channels are missing from A LA CARTE. I am curious to know exactly which ones were left out.

Stingray, there is a Bell TV RETENTIONS thread here at Digitalhome. If you scan through it during the last 3 months of 2009, you will find that Bell was offering between 30% and 40% off programming for a year to anyone who complained about pricing and mentioned a competitor's offer.

Not sure if they are still doing that now, but I confirmed with them that this retentions discount will 'stick' even if you switch over to the new platform.
