Is putting 880watt rms Clarion DPX1851 amp to a 750 watt rms kicker CompVX 12 inch sub too much. I've heard these subs will take what you give them and still beg for more, but before i toss the money into this, i want to make sure that it could take this slight overpowering (15% excess 130 watts.)

Could it work if i turn down the gain on the amp?

also on a side note
if the amp is rated at 850watts max, how is it capable of putting out 880 watt rms at 2ohm?

a lot of amps have stickers stating their power, that isn't true.
sure it may hit 880 watts, but that maybe the max it can hit, but that isn't the amp's true power.
true power is the continuous amount of power the amp will continuously put out. i have 2 kicker compVR and they r nasty. i've won a couple competitions with them and i'm pushing 1000 watts to each of them. kicker, memphis, and a few other brands are amazing! they are designed to take what they are given and they will keep performing!
bro to be honest, u could hook up a thousand watt amp to the sub(s) and you should be fine.

i say you're perfectly ok. :-)

agreed with the guy above me, the kickers are stuburn bustards when it comes to power handling and that can take basically what ever you can throw at it in the respectable range.
Happy Thumping!
