I'm also rooting for her and not only cause she's french  She was absolutly amazing in this movie and it's honestly the best performance I've seen out of all the nominees in that category

I'm surprised that there were so many Nos. Even without the glitz and the ceremony, aren't people interested in finding out who won? I am, in a vague way - I thought more people would be like me, at least. Hmm. Is anyone a bit irritated that Assassination didn't get nominated for Best Score? Because I am, it was fantastic.

I think I might have to revise my predictions a bit - maybe Atonement might get Best Picture, or NCFOM. I don't think TWBB will win Best Picture. Best Directing is still a fight between PTA and the Coen brothers, though.

I'm so incredibly happy for Glen Hansard and Marquette!!!!

Very well deserved. Once was fantastic!

Poor Marquette didn't get to say a word thopugh because of the blasted music. :(

ITA about The Bourne Ultimatum

LOVED the Matt Damon shoutout :) lol

Javier: Check, Morian: Check, Sweeny Todd: Check. Now i need Johnny and Atonement to win :sigh:

Oh cool!!!! Hopefully they are still playing in a couple of weeks when I finally get the time to go to the movies. Thanks for the info! :)

You guys - I need your help. I wrote about the Atonement snub at the Oscars and I need your comments.
Here's the link: Not All That’s Gold, Glitters.

I forgot to to mention I loved 'Halle Berry and Judi Dench' :lmao:

So good :D

Also Steve Carell  "This isn't documentary?"

and James :sigh:

i'm not feeling the nominees this year....i mean yeah there are great performances nominated...but there isn't like someone i'm rooting for to win..there's usually at least one

i finally got around to watching the oscars the other day...2 days after they were broadcast......i purposedly stayed away from this forum. newspaper, radio or any other type of media to keep from being spoiled....

random thoughts.....some of the commercials were better than the actual broadcast...which i mostly just fast forwarded, except for the winners and some of the acceptance speeches that were given....

pleasant surprise that tilda swinton won in the best supporting actress...i've been a fan of hers ever since i saw her in a film about incest called 'the war zone'

while i think that marion cotillard gave an oscar winning performance for her performance in 'la vie en rose'.......i'm still not terribly fond of the film,
i thought it was put together in a slipshod manner...

no surprises in best actor or best supporting actor categories......

agreed that 'no country for old men' deserved best picture and best director (s) award.....paul thomas anderson and johnny depp will one day have their day at the oscars too.....

thought some of jon stewart's jokes and monologues were in bad taste....notably the one about cate blanchett and her different roles....and saying that she was the dog that josh brolin shot in 'no country for old men'

but then surpising he evened things out by bringing back the best song performer and writer markéta irglová, so that she could thank the audience after being cut off by the music....

surpised that 'taxi to the dark side' won the best documentary oscar this year....given the stark and brutal torture scenes and pictures that are so prolific in that film.......

my biggest gripe about the oscars usually has to do with the animated/live action shorts and short documentary categories......the majority of these films are never seen by anyone..

but the good news.... if you live in orange county, california....

I honestly don't know how Transformers lost. I mean it had some of the best CGI effects ever. I mean the robots looked like they were real. It had the robots pretty much thoughout the movie. I thought Golden Compass was sucky movie too.

I figured her get a nomination but to snub Helena is horrible! IMO she was the best part of Sweeney Todd. I  her!

I have Away From Her and La Vie En Rose coming in the mail tomorrow :yay: I'm hoping after seeing these films I'll have a pick for Lead Actress. I haven't seen a performance that has blown me away from an actress this year. Maybe Ellen Paige but I doubt she'll win.

Gwen I totally agree on the score to "There Will Be Blood"... It's fantastic!

My mind has been wandering because of the two tragedies, but as soon as I compose myself, I'll be making some predictions and comments. I'm not even in the 50% range, heh, but I always like try my hand at it.

I will say, like I said before, that the nominations were very predictable, but not less deserving. The favorites this year were defined very early on in the season, but watching a few of the movies I can say that they've earned it, imho.

I didn't know that, mukooh! Very interesting. I agree about the category being tough this year. Very much so!

I agree.

Wow, The Bourne Ultimatum has been doing great with the technical awards! They do deserve them, that movie is quite an experience.

I'll never understand why they applaud during that. It's like they feel the need to only applaud for those they recognize so inevitably the actors who died get the greatest applause. It's stupid & they should just keep quiet during the whole video IMO.
