80th academy award nominations & discussion thread

I am still reeling from my girl Marion Cotillard's win, she more than deserved it! This has been such an amazing year for her and she couldn't be more endearing about it all. I bawled when she one, her speech was so touching. She just OWNS, she's the only person I was really rooting for this year. :love:
 
i wish Amy sang Thats How You Know, I love Kristin Chenoweth but she lacks the enrgy this song needs, though she hads extras and stuff but Amy had much enrgy and she was ALONE on the stage.

anyway JOHNNY FTW !!! :D
 
Saoirse Ronan- Atonement :irked:

No offense to her fans, but I certainly don't think her performance was on the same level of Helena Bonham Carter's, Mrs. Lovett, in Sweeney Todd. I just don't get it. Helena was snubbed big time.
 
I really loved Enchanted but I'm so excited that Falling Slowly won. Those two are awesome. :)
 
okay, i like the Oscars. loved the flashbacks thingy with the best picture wins, best actor & actress wins. :)

Jon Stewart is hilarious! :lol: loved his baby jokes with Jessica, Cate, Nicole and Angelina! :lol:

Katherine Heigl was so nervous, i thought she was gonna throw up! and how funny was James McAvoy & Josh Brolin? :lol: plus those Superbad guys? :lol:

i'm glad Daniel, Javier & Marion won! go foreigners! :lol: best speech of the night for me? Daniel's.
 
What no Hairspray no Nikki Blonsky just shows you again that the academy doesnt know what the people actually like :mad:
 
I loved them! That was the best moment of the night, in my eyes. That song is beautiful. And I loved how Jon brought her back out to say thanks. :)

Other than that...boring..
 
I am so happy for Javier Bardem! I was rooting for Ellen Page and Marion Cotillard. I am so happy that Marion Cottilard won. She is soo pretty. I would like to see the movie.

I was crying when Marion Cotillard won.

:yay: I am spanish and irish and I am so happy that Javier won and the two people that won the song for "once" is irish.

Plus, Javier was incredible in "no country for old men."
 
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Joel and Ethan Coen won the top prize from the Directors Guild of America on Saturday for "No Country for Old Men," giving them the inside track for the same honor at the Academy Awards - assuming the Oscars go on amid the writers strike.

Javier Bardem and DDL - no surrpise, really. But I'm glad for the two of them, they deserved it.

Wow, No Country for Old Men. Actually no, it's not that much of a surprise. I felt bad for PTA and There Will Be Blood though, only 2 out of the 8 awards. But that's also a credit to The Bourne Ultimatum, I did not expect it to win the technical awards but it did.

Tilda Swinton - did not expect that at all :eek: and I was grinning when Marion Cotillard won. I haven't seen La Vie En Rose but for some reason I was rooting for her to win!

Everybody, please take a moment to feel bad for Roger Deakins. Two nominations for Best Cinematography this year, 7 in total, and not a single Oscar win. What does that man have to do to win?!

Not one of the classic Oscars (not that I'd really know, anyhow, since I usually just watch snippets) - Jon did a good enough job but the jokes weren't that good. Not really the writers' fault though. All in all, I'm just glad that the strike is over - no matter who won, at least we got a proper awards ceremony!
 
I'm excited Cate got 2 noms... even though Elizabeth wasn't all that great,her acting was amazing but I think she'll win for I'm Not There - she was completely phenomenal in that!

Viggo's nomination was a pleasant surprise... but thinking back on the film - he was awesome - definitely deserves it:nod:.

Joe Wright should have definitely got nominated for best director, its a shame.
 
Still pissed that Jonny Greenwood's score was disqualified for Best Score for There Will Be Blood. I have the soundtrack and, even without seeing the film, I can tell you that the score is great. With the movie I'm sure it'd be phenomenal. Stupid Academy Awards and their arcane rules :rolleyes:

Having said that, the nominations haven't surprised me - apart from Atonement, thought that would have gotten more nominations. I'm pulling for Casey Affleck to win Best Supporting Actor - watched TAOJJBTCRF (whew, that was long) and he was great. But I'm quite sure Javier Bardem has it in the bag. And I hope TAOJJBTCRF will win for Best Cinematography - visually it was stunning. But I don't know, the things I pull for tend not to win. :blank:

My predictions:
Daniel Day Lewis for Best Actor
Javier Bardem for Best Supporting Actor
Ethan and Joel Coen for Best Director
There Will Be Blood for Best Picture (or it might be the other way around, with Paul Thomas Anderson for Best Director and No Country for Old Men for Best Picture. It's either/or, really. I don't think they will give both to only one of them).
