70's British Horror.

I got Nothing but the Night on dvd from Germany a while back but the packaging seems to think it's the Peter Cushing film The Uncanny.

It appears both films have been released in the same packaging .

I was in 2 minRAB whether to unwrap it but it wasn't until I actually put it in the player I discovered it was NBTN

Favorite British 70's horror? The Asphyx, a really creepy film.

There was also another one about an old china doll that was possessed, which was really creepy. They repeated it on telly about 10 years ago and I can't remember what it was called. :(

See that film when it was first released... *MIND THE DOORS*Everytime I hear that on Bank Station.. it gives me the shudders!!:D Dont think I'll pop onto Russell Square station for some time though!!:D

I've enjoyed all of these films over the years, and I would also include the USA film Trilogy Of Terror as one of my favourites.
Particularly the last story with the voodoo doll coming to life.

Well, I say I picked up Dr Terror's. What I actually meant was I ordered it from Play.com, and they've been out of stock of it since! Hopefully it'll turn up before long. Also, believe it or not, my Amicus 3 discer has only just arrived too. Don't ask. Excellent set though. Had a quick peek through it. Is it just me or does THE BEAST MUST DIE! look a bit zoomed in? According to DVDCompare it's the original ratio (1.78:1), but I find that difficult to believe to be honest. It just looks incorrectly framed at times. Otherwise it's a sterling set. All the films look great, and there's a nice set of extras.

You were right about the Vipco Vault of Horror. It's pretty poor, and is basically a VHS copy on DVD. Still, it's the full version, and I'd rather watch that any day over the horrible cut US release. The House That Dripped Blood was absolutely fantastic. Tremendous fun, and a true classic. Not even that gory either! :D

They did although I'm not sure they were in a boxset. I got them as individual releases.

The 2 Harry Alan Towers Fu Manchu films were also released but as I was uncertain about the UK ones I opted for the US Blue Underground releases as you can always be sure about the quality from them

Late to this thread, but i like you guys am a massive fan of 70s era British horror.

Ironically a chap above just posted 'Theatre of Blood' amongst his favourites, it's one of mine too (Vincent Price hamming it up, Diana Rigg in the most unconvincing disguise ever), and i only watched it 2 days ago, although it's more of a comedy-horror.

Although i like Hammer my main interest is for Amicus portmanteau films (i think i've seen nearly all of them now). particular favourites are:

Asylum
Tales From the Crypt
The House that Dripped Blood

One thing I can't understand is WHY no one makes another Amicus style Portmanteau film.

a) it'd be cheap to make

b) Theres a huge following of 70s UK horror film buRAB who'd see it whether good or bad.

c) I think we've got some really good talent in this country at the minute who could pull it off. Imagine short stories written by

Steven Moffat
The League of Gentlemen
Russell T Davies
David Renwick (writer of Johnathan Creek)

or stories starring

Stephen Fry
Simon Pegg
Mark Gatiss
Michael Sheen

I really think it would work. If dross like Lesbian Vampire Killers and the new St Trinians can be funded, why not Amicus style horror.

Big fan of those double bill's that used to be on Saturday nights on BBC2. I remember ITV also often used to show a horror film on Monday nights after the news. One that I don't think's been mentioned was The Legacy with Katherine Ross, Charles Gray, Roger Daltrey, Sam Elliott et al. Not the greatest film by any means, but some good, gruesome death scenes.
