70's British Horror.

Amicus fans take note - Film Four are screening a new restored version of Vault of Horror at the moment.

Its been on at least twice - last time was Saturday.

The censored tv version that surfaced on VHS in the mid 80's has been shown by BBC,Sky Movies and Film Four themselves over the years.

The R1 double bill that includes a pristine print of Tales from The Crypt has a similarly pristine print of VOH - but its censored again.

The UK Vipco dvd is uncut but the quality is poor.

Thanks to the BFI Film Four have given us an uncut version in decent quality - albeit in 4:3.

At one point it was my fave Hammer film.
Brian Clemens took his usual whodunit plotting that he repeated so many times between 1973 and 1976 on his tv series Thriller, and turned it to great effect on the Kronos film.
The best element for me though is the rousing music from Clemens regular associate Laurie Johnson who provided music for The Avengers , The Professionals and Thriller.

I bought the film on dvd from Japan a while before it was released elsewhere and my current disc is the Spanish one.

Check out one of the issues of Little Shoppe of Horrors from a couple of years back that devotes almost an entire issue to the making of the film.

Ahead of its time and designed as the first of a series - but great fun nevertheless
