70's British Horror.

Never mind. I'm downloading The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari instead. Not British or 70's, but bloody good! I've never actually seen this site before, but I'm thrilled to see Edison's Frankenstein and other B+W classics. Thanks for the heaRAB up IJ. :)
 
Bit late here, but I caught this when it was on, and I'm sure it's still cut you know. I could have sworn at the end the protagonists faces change to skulls, but it wasn't in the Film4 version or on my R1 DVD. Am I confusing it with another film? I'm pretty pissed off at the DVD's of this doing the rounRAB. None of them are of a decent quality really. I can't believe classic British horror is so poorly served on DVD.
 
I bought The Hammer Collection from Cex the other day. Fabulous box set. So far I've watched

Scars of Dracula
The Witches
The Devil Rides Out

Excellent films!!!

Keep an eye on Zone Horror - they tend to have a few 70's horror classics late in the evening.
 
I'm not a big fan of Hammer movies in general but "The Gorgon" and "The Reptile" struck me a particularly dull.
Hammer's rep. company, reused sets and the dullness of certain directors all conspire to make them hard work.
No complaints about "Plague of the Zombies", "Taste the Blood of Dracula" or "Quatermass and the Pit" though.:)
 
Thanks for your reply UWBilly. I already have a few of those Corman Poe films thankfully, and have now been trying to complete my Amicus set. I do already have the double disc Tales from the Crypt and Vault of Horror from Fox, but after seeing the uncut version again I thought it was worth picking up the Vipco. I've heard a lot of mixed things about the disc, some say it's not so bad, some say it's just VHS, but I just couldn't stand the cuts so I got it anyway. Hopefully it'll turn up soon so I can see it for myself. Luckily it didn't cost very much.

The R1 Amicus 3 disc collection does indeed feature those extras. I couldn't even find a R2 set! Scream and Scream again...forgot about that one. Cheers dude. :D
 
I used to love watching those old films and TV shows as a kid.

And there was always a good chance of seeing a bit of nudity (Twins of Evil, The Vampire Lovers etc.) :)
 
I also watched The Gorgon recently and it is not boring at all.

Cheaply made, but the sets and the acting were pretty good. And there was the lovely Barbara Shelley, one time Hammer Queen (The Gorgon was played by Prudence Hyman).

I have been a Hammer fan since the 1960s and always watch them occasionaly since I have quite a few DVRAB with all the Dracula and Frankenstein movies, and also all the Quatermass ones as well.

Recently I bought The Lost Continent one of Hammer's lesser known movies, and it is a Gas!!!!

Great fun though.

The 1950s, 1960s and early 1970s were great years for British Horror movies, and its great that you can buy most of them on DVD quite cheaply these days.
 
I've had the US dvd of The Lost Continnet for years .
Is the recent UK version the complete cut as the US one made a fuss about having about 8 minutes of extra footage .
It runs to 97 minutes

I think the UK disc is from Optimum who I have a low opinion of
 
Check out the vintage US tv, particularly Tales of Tomorrow which features Paul Newman's first tv appearance, a drunk Lon Chaney as Frankenstein's monster (who has forgotten he's not rehearsing but doing it live) and, even in this antique form, Dune Roller, which is still a fairly creepy version of Julian May's very scary story.
I don't think any of us will live long enough to see everything on this site but it's worth a try.:)
 
Ingrid Pitt and Yutte Stensgard ( or summat like that) were not averse to getting their kit off too.
Quatermass and the Pit was another cracker.
And who can forget the gorgeous Martine Beswick in Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde- it was a lot better than the title suggests,
 
I got the collection as well when it was on offer in the January sales!! Good to see Hammer Films have been resurrected (groan!) again, too!



Putting it that way would have been just as effective!! :D

I have the uncut R2 dvd ,the cut R1 dvd and the recent Film Four screening.

Its uncut - as stated by the announcer each time the film is shown.

The R1 dvd is the same butchered version as we have had for 20 years.

Its only in the last few weeks that FF have shown the uncut version.

Their previous transmissions a year or two ago are the cut version
 
I actually paid money to see "Satanic Rites" when it came out (double bill with "Vault of Horror I think) and I just fancied seeing it again. I can live with less than perfect picture quality if the sound's in sync.:)
I know that in the US one can petition for something to be made public domain if it hasn't been available for a long time but I doubt it happens very often and in the UK probably not at all.
I wish someone would do it for "Moontrap" which is otherwise are never going to be legitimately available because of the legal nightmare surrounding its ownership.
 
Although he winRAB up in the crypt, you could argue it's his wife that's left in a living hell, having trapped her beloved in eternal pain.

Not sure if this is the point though.
