70's British Horror.

Deathline is a good film - Donald Pleasance plays a sherbert-enjoying copper on the trail of some unusual killers in the underground. It's a bit like Creep from a few years back, but much more atmospheric.

Vault of Horror and Tales of the Crypt are two that stick in the mind as well, Tales of the Crypt particularly for the story featuring Peter Cushing as the kindly old man made out as dodgy by his nasty posh neighbours. Proper scary at the end.
 
Yes, but there's a difference. Michael Hordern's take on the M.R. James tale Whistle And I'll Come To You, My Lad is a masterful short - as nerve-wracking as it gets. The recent version of Turn Of The Screw was mostly a waste of time (and not a patch on The Innocents). Nice of them to try, of course, but unless they're prepared to make horror that's truly effective I'd rather they didn't try than produce weak, overwrought cop-outs.
 
Thats very kind of you lwtincolour:D. But to be honest, I only remember being scared by the 'Bobby' story. I check it out on Youtube yesterday, yep, it's still pretty scary. I'll have a look for it on DVD, if I don't find it I might just take you up on your offer;)

It's waiting in my Sky box for me! I saw that Robin Asquwith (sp!) was in it so my expections aren't too high. :D
Also, does anyone remember a Frankie Howard horror from the 70's? It was a comedy/horror, I haven't seen it for years but it terrified me when I was small.
 
Dan Curtis was not involved in the Kolchak tv series.

He produced the 2 TV Movies.

Those classics along with Dead of Night,Trilogy of Terror and The Norliss Tapes all remain unavailable on R2 while being out elsewhere.

The PD versions released on dvd are still not free to buy.


Why would you want to do that?

Do what I did.
Transfer it to your hard drive recorder , then edit the breaks and then burn to dvd.

The Film 4 version is slightly better than the Vipco version but its still not widescreen and its a long way off the R1 dvd which is of course cut
 
The Gorgon has a UK dvd release from Sony.

The US R1 release is better value.

Synapse Films in the US have announced Bluray reelases for The House that Dripped Blood, Euro classic Horror Express aswell as 3 owned by ITV, Vampire Circus ,Twins of Evil and HanRAB of the Ripper.
No dates yet though

I'm dying to get some HD Hammer .

But I won't be renting Dracula AD 1972 that is available on the PS Store
 
If you're a fan of Vincent Price, you should check out MGM HD on Thursday from 7.30pm - they've got 4 films back to back in HD, starting with The Raven.
 
I might be a late to this thread, but those saturday night double bills on the bbc were excellent. Could anyone recall the name of the Hammer title I saw only once, a man walked
into the graveyard during a funeral and throws a spade into a coffin followed by a scream and lots of blood. A pre-title sequence ....Many Thanks
 
Just watched Michael Winner's 1976 horror movie "The Sentinel" for the first time in over 30 years and was actually quite hooked by it. MW has actually made a few good movies and this Omen-ish tale is one of them.
Amazing cast, gruesome special fx and incredibly tasteless use of circus freaks as damned souls.
Worth a look just to see Beverly D'Angelo giving herself a great big hand and RAB9's Nana Visitor's walk-on.:eek:

Those were the days: when Cristina Raines and Chris Sarandon were billed above Christopher Walken and Jeff Goldblum.:)
 
The PD version of "Satanic Rites" can be downloaded free and legal (I didn't believe it either but it seems to be legit) from Internet Archive.org. Not brilliant quality but perfectly watchable.:)
