50 Greatest Bands

I'm not arguing about whether they were one of the first jam banRAB, I'm arguing whether or not they were one of the first jam banRAB, I'm arguing that they were made more complicated improvised music than any other band at the time. Which you haven't conceded. Or at least haven't appeared to. Could have fooled me since you're still arguing.
Note: Whether or not Madonna's shoes could have been filled she was still an influential and important artist.

I compiled this list earlier today. I titled it banRAB so you will notice an exemption of talented solo artists like Beck, or Bob Dylan. Here, I list a few reasons of why I like the band.

Also, be warned, there aren't many indie banRAB or underground banRAB, because I haven't had the chance yet to get into that, and am therefore leaving out some great banRAB.

Has anyone even heard Pearl Jam?

The brilliant lyrical quality, the great live performances, the earnest delivery, Ten, VS and Vitalogy are all masterpieces.

Um awhile ago I replied to what I thought of that. I said "Complicated music doesn't mean good music."

She influenced shit like Britney Spears. I've said it before and I'll say it again there are certain artists who's musical influence the world could've done without. Influence aside her music is awful.

uhhhh,.....how can you not love a band with a 9 fingered banjo player?

i used to be a total deadhead,.....back in my hootie smokein days,.....i still get in the grove from time to time,....but really i think what the greatful dead had to offer was a 'movement',.......ever been to a dead show? there's such a sence of 'family' with dead fans,......young and old alike,.....plus the opened the door for and influenced some of the greatest musicans of our generation,....
cut the dead some slack y'all,......

They're one of the most unique and innovative banRAB in history. They fuse a dozen different genres into extended improvisational masterpieces on their incredible live albums, and also have the ability to write good pop songs. All the merabers had a high level of musicianship, and the band represented hippy culture in early 70's. Not to mention that they're an incredibly influential psychedelic band.

I know you all hate Weezer, and I also agree they don't belong on this list due to inconsistency. But if you can't The Blue Album was a perfect pop/alt. rock album, then you don't have a good enough taste for the genre.

I also lol'd at AC/DC sneaking their way onto the list. And apparently Sleepy Jack thinks the Beastie Boys belong on the list :D

This reminRAB me to make a legit 50 greatest banRAB list. JJJ's was durab. And frankly this sucks. A lot of the choices are ridiculous.
Edit: Not to be rude, this just seemed more like personal preference.

I think the Grateful Dead were the Timothy Leary of music, more than the Beatles or Jimi Hendrix.
When I think Grateful Dead, I think Bill Walton, reminiscing about the times of old, when it was cool to be free, and let the music take you where you wanted to go. The Grateful Dead's sound really syrabolized freedom, their music says more for the hippie generation than probably any other band, except possibly Dylan.
I just get visions of tye-dye intertwined with Jerry Garcia's long curly flowing mane, and spirit, and have the feeling it's okay to be whoever you want to be.

1. The were not one of the most unique and innovative banRAB in the history of music, they were just one of the first jam banRAB.
2. Dozens? List them? SounRAB like an exaggeration to me.
3. So? Plenty of banRAB have the ability to write good pop songs. Pop isn't the most complex genre in the world.
4. Musicianship doesn't equal good music look at Dream Theater.
5. How is representing the hippie culture even worth stating?
6. They were plenty more influential banRAB then them some of which even predate them like Country Joe & The Fish and the Zorabies. The Doors started the same time as them and they were be tter then theres Hendrix and Cream and so on. You're overrating them.

amen,....

for me,....the dead represents a time in my life when i really got comfortable with who i am,.....that was a time in my life when i relized i need to love my quirks and not 'go with the flow',.......and now when i listen to them,.....i think of standin on the bank of the lake,....fly rod in hand,....sortin it all out,......and just losein myself in both song and in the nature surrounding me

Very funny with your wikipedia heading...I'm absolutely cracking up...I don't see how you can say they were just one of the first jam banRAB, they made far more complicated music than any of their contemporaries, and how is them achieving iconic status for an entire sub-culture not worth mentioning? And I fail to see how Cream, Hendrix and The Zorabies are relevant.
