4Kids Talkback: The Crossroads of Destiny - The 4Kids Discussion V10

Let's not get our hopes up about Magical DoReMi returning to TV... I mean, it's not impossible (I saw it on a banner at a convention in a picture), but I thought if it was going to return it would have already. I don't know if both Cubix airings will be cut for Magi-Nation or just one. My speculation is for Tai-Chi Chasers to cut a Sonic X airing, but that's about it.

I know that I should have posted this back before now, but here it is anyway. just like last weekend (Christmas weekend), KTLA Is shifting the block around once again because of the Rose Parade 2011.

Here's the schedule this time:

2:00 AM Sonic X
2:30 AM Sonic X
3:00 AM Yu-Gi-Oh!
3:30 AM Sonic X

Then, KTLA will take a half-hour break for an American Dad re-run, and then back to Toonzai.

4:30 AM Dragonball Z Kai
5:00 AM Dragonball Z Kai
5:30 AM Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's
6:00 AM Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's

Then a two-hour break, and finally, The Cubix hour from 8:30 AM-9:30 AM.

BTW, WGN in chicago aired Cubix at is regular time today, but delayed the last four hours to 12:00 PM-4:00 PM:

12:00 PM Sonic X
12:30 PM Sonic X
1:00 PM Yu-Gi-Oh!
1:30 PM Sonic X
2:00 PM Dragonball Z Kai
2:30 PM Dragonball Z Kai
3:00 PM Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's
3:30 PM Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's

Also, WPIX aired the block in pattern today, and was also airing a Honeymooners marathon, but took a 6-hour break to allow Toonzai to air, as well as one hour of random programming.

BTW, my affilate, KCWI aired the block at its regular time today.

Another BTW, sorry if some of the stuff that i wrote on this post was a bit off-topic, but I just wanted to let you all know.

Kids' WB! never officially started at 6 AM on both weekdays and Saturday mornings. I'm not entirely sure, but it may have started at 6 AM if the block was timeshifted in some timezones. However, I believe that many of these affiliates instead aired the morning block from 2-3 PM right before the afternoon block. Nevertheless, the official schedule never started at 6 AM in the Eastern time zone between 1995 and 2008.

There's nothing implausible about planning. 4kids needs to plan for the long-term. Again, animation is something that has a long turn-around time (Young Justice is fast by animation standards, about 1 year from pitch to airing). 4kids two years from now might be in a far stronger position than they are now. That's when the property needs to be ready.

I know animation is expensive and each episode costs hundreds of thousands of dollars if hand-drawn, and possibly even more expensive rendered in CGI. That's why networks commission pilots, so they know they can blow 4 million or something on 13 episodes.

Even if 4kids orders 13 episodes of an original property now, it'll still take eighteen months before it's ready to air. There's conceptualizing, writing, etc. The most expensive part is the production part where the voice acting, animation, SFX, etc., come in, and that doesn't start until six months or so before the series airs. Heck, Young Justice's rushed production schedule says a lot, the first season is STILL in production even as Cartoon Network blasts through episodes. As episode 1 premiered, episodes 7-9 were being animated. And guess what, episode 7 is airing this Friday.

4kids should have something in pre-production so if their situation starts looking up they can quickly get 13 episodes out the door. And if Toonzai stagnates, well, how much money is wasted in pre-production? Much less than if the show actually went into production or post.

Fortunately thats not "entirely" true. I'm in southwest florida, so not sure what affiliate controls this (sector?). Anyways, since the beginning of Smallville season10, 4kids has aired some well need commercial space for its Toonzai block. Normally airs during the first commercial break. I've seen promos for DBKai, as well as that Sonic X halloween special episode.

Considering that the chances of 4Kids being able to hold the license to the franchise after the court ruling and be able to acquire Zexal aren't looking so great given the information we do have, I think it would be for the best if they just tried to get the rest of the series dubbed and aired as soon as possible. They may not get another Yu-Gi-Oh! series like they want and need, so it would be good if they could finish the rest of 5D's. I'd like to see a completed Yu-Gi-Oh! dub again and it would be really nice if the voice actors could continue working on their respective roles until the end of the series.

I don't think it's too much of a stretch that the new company would let people see the 4Kids episodes. It's possible that if/when they acquire the Yu-Gi-Oh! license, they are able to release the 4Kids episodes from the previous series. TPCI still has access to the 4Kids seasons of Pokemon. While there haven't been a lot of older seasons released on DVD in the U.S. since the Orange Island set, I believe that there are other English-speaking countries, like Australia and the UK, that have the eight 4Kids seasons on DVD, although I forget if all of those seasons were released after 4Kids lost the rights, and Boomerang has been airing Johto episodes for quite some time. So, I don't think it's that unlikely that the new company won't do anything with the 4Kids episodes. There just might be more demands for either re-dubs or legal subs online more so than using the 4Kids dubs. I still think that getting a re-dub is a possibility, depending on if the company thinks that there's enough demand for the amount of work and money it would take, but there is a better chance for legal subs for the previous series at least.

The schedule for the final weeks of April stays the same, with new episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's and new to broadcast episodes of Dragon Ball Z Kai. They are also skipping the first 24 episodes of season three of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! and moving to the 'Back to Battle City' episodes.

Ah, that makes a lot more sense than what I thought. I must have missed that link to their new beta site when I was just glossing over the link. My mistake. Thanks for the clarification. They probably didn't want to manage two different forums devoted to their company.

Let's see there's, no blood whatsover in the series, almost no on screen deaths(and all of them are energy blast esque), most of the characters are extremely silly, and while characters have been seen drinking it's not that hard to edit, and it's only a few scenes. Same with fanservice. As someome who's been watching it since day 1, I can say it would be MUCH easier to deal with than Kai. Not to mention the hardcore fanbase doesn't care much for the anime to begin with, so 4 Kids won;t catch that much hell, regardless of edits, though I can't imagine any as extereme as you might think.

Your acting like it's as bad to deal with as One Piece or something.

I kind of find that funny and a tad bit interesting myself, it's almost as if he was a huge anchor attatched to 4Kids and as soon as he was cut loose they had enough leverage to turn the ship around, lol. Still, another very solid week for 4Kids and things seem to have turned around completely, it's becoming a pattern more so than a rare occurance now and things look to be coasting as the ratings continue to stay above 1.0's for the blocks biggest shows.

It's mighty good to see.

I'm glad that they're still able to air new episodes of 5D's. I would like to see how the WRGP turns out, despite being annoyed at how it's starting out right now. I'm kind of surprised that they're skipping the whole Noah Virtual World saga. Maybe they want to finish up the whole Battle City saga instead of going through the filler arc first. Though, I still have the whole season on DVD, so that doesn't bother me.

Well, if that's the case then they have themselves to blame, had Kahn been a little more aggressive with negotiations and more willing to take some chances and make some moves when more money was available then maybe 4Kids wouldn't find themselves in the position that they are in. I guess things could be worse, they could be belly up already, but they aren't and I'm glad because the company has some good going for it, they just need to "find a way" to make everything work so their financial reports don't look so bad. They need to become profitable on a larger scale instead of finding moderate to mid-level success with barely acceptable ratings.

I guess I'm just more or less frusterated with 4Kids and the way that company has been run, I know I can't change things over there but I hope whoever they get to fill Kahn's position can.

I really don't think 4kids is going to be that rash, even with a new leader. You really need to understand 4kids, is trying to play it safe, going out and spending money like a drunk and making such rash choices wouldn't be intelligent.

I was sure that I remembered either the weekday morning block or the Saturday morning block starting at 6AM at some point. Maybe I'm mixing it up with UPN or maybe it was only like that for me in the Pacific time zone. Still, I appreciate the clarification.
