your iphone must be jailbroke....download install firmware 3.1.2 the jailbreak it with redsn0w, it has very simple walk-thru info. i myself have a 2g 16gb and this is what i did

use ready made custom files of version 2.0 or 2.0.1
and restore with itunes.

read and read FAQ again my friend. if you have phone detect always in recovery mode what to do.
 
Your information is great Mr. Stanner...but..what's happening is when I use itunes to restore it hangs forever on the "waiting for iphone" step...not sure what to do with it now. Do you think using the "virginise.sh" method will work at this point?
 
i guess no one knew the solution or maybe just doesn't want to share. anyway, problem solved. phone is actived and unlocked now
maybe i am the only one who knows the solution

Hi Dear Staner Austin and All others Experts those who reading this thread regularly...

i have iphone 2g and firmware version i did check before that was 1.?.? something like start with 1, actully i dont remember now,
problem start when customer give this phone for unlocking and i have chacked firmware version and modem firmware but i forgot totaly now just i remember first digit that is 1, anyway let explain my problem so you guys help me so next time i improve my knowlwdge........

i want unlock so i did used blackrain for jailbreaking and during jailbreaking iphone goes in recovery mode so after that i did download firmware for iphone 2g 3.1.2 something like that and i tryed to restore but during restoration itunes give error that firmware does not support for this hardware, so then i restore online so after restore and update online my phone stuck on activation screen, and this iphone actully from other contry i do not know which carrier and which contry...so i can not activate. so i did search for alredy activated custom firmware but i found 3.1.2 custome firmware for i phone 2g, now i trying to restore by shift key but durring restoration itunes giving error 16xx ome thing like that, now problem is after online update or restoration which firmware inside iphone because phone stuck on activation screen so i do not know which latest updated firmware installed inside, and now which vesion custom firmware i need now so i can prevent itunes error like 16xx.

Please dear all i need help from u guys....please give guidance so i can clear my concept related this problem..

additional to above comments , I tried on the following status but result is same.
- USB 2.0 on front of PC case
- USB 1.1 on back of PC Case
- at final on USB HUB with ext.Adapter +5Volt

Now what help ? ? ?
 
I have same device.. model is:MA 712
Bootloader:3.9

It was stuck in recovery mode all time.. ( I get it in this condition)..

I dont know software version, and my Q. is...

Q : Can anybody advice me to make restore in unlockable condition????

Baseband: 04.05.04_G
Bootloader: 3.9
Model: MA 712

Iphone 2g needs to be unlocked ver 3.1.3 modem firmware 04.05.04

I bought this one and it has alot of apps on it from ITunes

Can i jailbreak/unlock this with out losing all of the apps?

And is there anyway i can put these on another Iphone?

How about get the movies out of it?

Do i need to downgrade the firmware to 3.1.2?

when I up date FW 3.1.3 for Iphone 2G ...now . I can't call out but I can receive ...when I power on it show Emergency call ...I can't access anything ..only call Emergency ...thanks
 
i have restored my iphone 2g back to 1.1.4..i must chang the imie, but can not! the imie changer on ziphone will not let me change it! help plz
