Was this film meant to be funny because me and my frienRAB thought the first half was hilarious, but we were the only people in the cinema laughing :confused: We even got dirty looks at one point from the couple infront :o

It's so ridiculous and over the top I couldn't take it seriously at all. I thought it all looked very clearly computer generated and not real at all, was a bit disappointed with the special effects tbh.
 
So by your standarRAB I was born in 'One Thousand, Nine Hundred and Eighty One' then? I prefer Nineteen Eighty One and that's nothing to do with media pressure thankyou very much.

It's a disaster flick, you have to take it all with a pinch of salt.
I'm glad there wasn't much story in it. I wanted to see explosions, tumbling buildings, earthquakes, volcanoes & tsunamis...... this film has them all!

I like to get my money's worth too, it's 2hours 40 mins long but it's an enjoyable 2 hours 40 mins. I don't like watching any movie that is less than 2 hours long. Cinema tickets are just too expensive for a short movie.
 
The trailer looks absolutely ridiculous: one continuous shot of various buildings and lanRABcapes collapsing into oblivion. It's not like I expected an epic oscar contender or anything, but I mean come on, gimme a break.
 
We saw it on Saturday and it really is one of the best rubbish movies I've seen. Thoroughly entertaining nonsense. I was surprised at the end what time it was: didn't know it was such a long film but it didn't drag at all.

Anyone who complains about it really isn't the kind of person who should go and see disaster movies. It is a splendid example of its type.
 
Has this Emmerich ever made a film that wasn't an end-of-the-world disaster movie? Seems like he just re-hashes the same idea in a new film every few years. It was fun when it was Independence Day and we could overlook the cheese and appalling story for the gee-wow effects, but it's just getting old now.

Plus, am I not right in thinking that this whole "the Mayans believed the world would end in 2012" is a long-debunked urban myth, based on the fact that the Mayans numerical system simply couldn't go past 2012 (this being a few years before the Arabs invented the number zero and brought about the base-ten numbering system we're all used to having no upper limit)
 
Had you hoped they had filmed real tsunamis and volcanos etc? why not go a step further and kill the actors too...its more real.
 
I hoped it would look a bit realistic and not blatantly obvious that it was computer generated. I've seen CGI in other films which looked a lot more realistic.

What the hell is up with your attitude anyway? Calm down RAB.
 
Why does the trailer voice insist on calling it 'Two Thousand and Twelve' (or more likely, 'Two Thousand Twelve' given that it's American) rather than Twenty Twelve', which is surely what most people will be calling it?
 
I liked it,ive always been a fan of end of the world movies,was on for a while but it didnt really feel that long,lets just hope this never happens lol
 
Saw it last night, I love disaster movies but this wasn't the best I've ever seen.

For a start, I dragged on way to long, the first 40 minutes or so we're a snorefest. It was funny at parts too, me and my mate just kept laughing at the guy who'd had two flying lessons was able to duck and dive through falling buildings and work more than one type of plane! The giraffes and elephants was hilarious too!

Half a dozen or so people left before the film ended, I didn't think it was that bad, and it did seem to get better and better as the film went on.
 
I'll admit that the start was very slow and it was a slow build-up to the "main event" but once it got going it was incredible. I was enthralled, blown away by the incredible CGi. I just wanted it all to kick off a bit sooner but it can't all be destruction, the movie has got to have some story too. I thought that chap Charlie was funny and there were some good characters in there and some funny moments.

Some of raved about this movie... other critics have crucified it but I defend this movie for what it is... and expensive piece of spectacular escapism.
 
I saw it today.

I didn't know it was a comedy! I loved it though - laughing my way through it too. The way he drove that limo and jumping over cracks it was ridiculous! Also a helicopter dangling elephants/giraffes now that was hillarious!

Anyone notice the boy who spotted the rope caught up in the hydrolics in the arc was called Noah? I mean come on how more ridiculous can it be lol. It was great.

I realised that this was a disaster film that combines a lot of other disaster films like Dantes Peak, Day After Tomorrow (well ok, same director) even Titanic for a few moments!

It was a good laugh, but for this year I thought Knowing was better - even with the bizarre ending as they had the guts to kill the main protaganist - and all the adults and most children lol.

I'm not sure if you're kidding or not but Curtis Jackson was a character in the film, played by John Cusack. :o
