I predicted 14/24....

i was sad about Pans Lab and Adrianna losing... but happy for Marty and departed

Beyonce really rocked it out on Listen...she grabbed the spotlight back from Jennifer in that

But that's what made the role so great. How many movies have you seen where children actually act like children? Not too many. Plus, Abigail had the maturity to pull off all of the emotional highs and lows that part required. She carried that movie (and without much direction or advice from her older, more experienced co-stars as I understand it). She is the heart and soul of LMS, and without her I doubt the movie would be doing as well as it is. JMHO.

Well from what Ive heard 21 grams is supposed to be better than BAbel, so I dont really think Babel will win, I think any of the others (except from Little Miss Sunshine) have a better chance to win.

I dont think theyd give it to Marty this year as much as Id love to see him finally get an oscar. I think they and Marty himself would have much MUCH more publicity this way, he is known as the director who didnt win an oscar despite a trillion nominations, so I think theyd keep it that way so that people would watch more of his movies to see what the hype is about and people would watch the oscars more to see if its finally his night, I think this year is also Clint, (I hate to admit it but I do!)

I would be speechless if I won an oscar for best director, that is the thing I dream of becoming I cant even imagine another job for me other than director, so I just think Ill forget everything. If I were to be nominated itd be in foreign movie cause I am from Iran and my first movies will be persian.

There has already been an upset. Allan Arkin won for best supporting actor over Eddie Murphy.

It doesn't bother me that Jennifer Hudson shouldn't get an Oscar because she hasn't "paid her dues" like other actors/actresses. I'm more irritated with that an actress shouldn't win an acting award for singing because that's what the Grammy and Tony awards are generally for. Of course, I could be wrong about her performance because I haven't and don't plan on seeing Dreamgirls unless it's free.

However, I can at least understand why Jamie Foxx won for Ray because the man was pretty good with Ray Charles, which somewhat applies to Reese for Walk the Line (although I thought Felicity should have won), etc.

I also think Edward Norton got snubbed this year, And I really hope MArty finally wins, as Leo pointed out, its becomming like some sort of a practical joke!

Benicio Del Toro was nominated for Best Supporting Actor but lost. I'll look this up.

Ok, I checked Naomi Watts didn't win her category so no, 21 Grams didn't win an Oscar.

The noms weren't that bad today! Glad to see Dreamgirls left out (they still lead the pack though with 8 nominations--3 of which are for song) of the best picture race--as I wasn't a fan of the movie.

I'm pulling for Scorsese to finally finally get his Oscar for director. And I'm pulling for either The Departed, Little Miss Sunshine or Babel to get the big prize as I loved all three of these movies (I'm seeing Iwo Jima and The Queen sometime this week hopefully--so this could change, but I doubt it)

I think Forest and Helen are locks (unless they get sentimental and give it to Peter O'Toole).

I think Adriana Barraza deserves the oscar over Jennifer Hudson. And Mark Whalberg or Djimon Hounsou deserves it over Eddie Murphy.

I really hope Departed gets Best Picture and Martin Scorsese wins for Best Director he really deserves it.

Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress are no contests and very predictable. Although I rather have picked Leo or Will to win for Best Actor.

As for Best Actress I am rooting for either Meryl Streep or Helen Mirren to win.

i do think the racist accusation was a little bit far.(and i cried when halle won too lol). although i cried at Jennifer's win too. i think she and forest seemed the most thankful out of all the other winners that night lol

i find it interesting, the diff. opinions on Jennifer's acting. My classes at school we've been praising it a lot. The musical theater kids are all obsessed with her peformance. They suffered from the "j holliday" syndrome i mentioned a page ago lol. they all wanted to hate her just cuz of J. holliday's legacy but after seeing the movie they had nothing but praise for her performance. And i have to praise her for the reactions she's got, the 3 times i went to see it, she got so many cheers throughout the movie, and the 3rd time i finally was in a showing where they gave her a standing ovation. I find that so cool. I've been to movies where ovations are given at the end of the movie, but DG was the first where i saw it happen during a movie lol

and for me, i focus on camera angles and transitions and that stuff a lot when i watch movies(i guess it goes with my major lol) and i liked a lot of them in DG, like the part for "fake your way to the top" where Jimmy jumps up from the piano backstage and the curtain falls and he's on stage live. i just love that lol.

and now that i read back that i saw it 3 times...i think i see why i'm usually out of money lol..i do that with a lot of movies in theaters. lol i use the first time to just enjoy the movie and then the multiple times after that to focus on the film itself

Surprises are more fun. It's boring when you pretty much already know who's going to win. I think we are in for at least one upset, but I'm not sure where it's going to come from.

Your refering to the documentary An Inconvenient Truth? A film that Al Gore narrated and starred in, It's also the name of the book that he wrote prior to the film.
While I'm concerned with environmental issues, I found that documentary too overloaded with facts, charts, graphs and figures, which tended to bore me. In my opinion only a much better environmental documentary from 2006 is the film Who killed the Electric Car?

Going back to the Documentary Features nominees at this year's Academy Awards, the only one that I haven't seen is My Country, My Country.

As far as I'm concerned the best of the nominees is Deliver Us From Evil. A documentary about a former Roman Catholic preist, a sociopath, a monster, a man who destroyed the lives of many many children, boys and girls, including their families.

Aww so happy for the Little Miss Sunshine nominations! :yay: I'm pleasantly surprised that Water was nominated for Best Foreign Film. I thought that it was a beautiful and sad movie but I have a feeling that Pan's Labyrinth is gonna take it though.

Okay here are my picks at the moment... Bold is who I think is going to win and italicized are the ones I want to win.

Best Picture: "Babel," "The Departed," "Letters From Iwo Jima," "Little Miss Sunshine," "The Queen."

Loathed the Queen and I didn't like Babel. Haven't seen Iwo Jima but I'm tired of Clint Eastwood

Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio, "Blood Diamond"; Ryan Gosling, "Half Nelson"; Peter O'Toole, "Venus"; Will Smith, "The Pursuit of Happyness"; Forest Whitaker, "The Last King of Scotland."

I would say Leo but he was nominated for the wrong film. I think they intentionally screwed him over.

Actress: Penelope Cruz, "Volver"; Judi Dench, "Notes on a Scandal"; Helen Mirren, "The Queen"; Meryl Streep, "The Devil Wears Prada"; Kate Winslet, "Little Children."

Judi Dench was by far better than Helen Mirren. I haven't seen "Little Children" yet so I can't judge Kate but she should have won a long time ago.

Supporting Actor: Alan Arkin, "Little Miss Sunshine"; Jackie Earle Haley, "Little Children"; Djimon Hounsou, "Blood Diamond"; Eddie Murphy, "Dreamgirls"; Mark Wahlberg, "The Departed."

I hated Dreamgirls and I don't think that Eddie deserves an Oscar for it. When I walked out of the Departed it's opening weekend I turned to my boyfriend and told him that Mark Wahlberg was going to get an Oscar nomination and he didn't believe me... No one did... What now bitch?!

Supporting Actress: Adriana Barraza, "Babel"; Cate Blanchett, "Notes on a Scandal"; Abigail Breslin, "Little Miss Sunshine"; Jennifer Hudson, "Dreamgirls"; Rinko Kikuchi, "Babel."

Again I hated Dreamgirls and Jennifer Hudson shouldn't win. Everyone in this category was better than she was. I know it's a longshot but I would love it if little Abby won :)

Directing: Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, "Babel"; Martin Scorsese, "The Departed"; Clint Eastwood, "Letters From Iwo Jima"; Stephen Frears, "The Queen"; Paul Greengrass, "United 93."

I can feel it! He needs to win! I'm sorry but Babel over The Departed? I can except it from the foriegn press but not from the Academy. Give it to Martin! He's the Susan Lucci of the Oscars!

Yeah, like with Peter O'Totle. He was always nomminated buit never won. And I don't think the Academy owed him an Oscar this time around. It's sad he never won, yes. But it doesn't mean the next little film he does he'll get nomminated and beat some other guy who was better then him in his own part.

I understand why they must fell like they have to give someone an Oscar, like with Peter Jackson, and people was saying that, 'cause it was the last film of LOTR he should win. But then Clint was like, flawless in his direction for Mystic River and I really think he should have won that year. I really don't like this pay off system.

Don't get me wrong. The departed it's an amazing movie, Scorsese did a perfect job on it, everyone that showed their faces there were good. Really. But to me, Little Miss Sunshine had that sparkle, you know? It had something more that's really hard to put on words, and that's why I think it should have won.

I watched 'Blood Diamond', and I loved it, Im shocked as to why it wasnt nominated for a best picture oscar, and Im really happy Leo was nominated for this movie, cause he was better in it. Its such a touching and affecting story, I loved it!

I like the nominations.

Leo got nominated for The Departed rather than Blood Diamond. Yay for Ryan Gosling, and Abigail Breslin.
