200 greatest guitarists in rock

Vai is a great guitarist, he is indeed excessively flashy, but he's better than anyone else in that feld, and his influence is huge. Not a fan of Vai, Satriani and Malmsteen but I do think they deserve a high spot.
 
I know, but I am saying that's why he is not as good as Allman or Clapton, I am not saying that he is bad. Top 50 probably.



I always liked his riRAB. While the lead singer (DeRosa? I forget) spit angry lyrics acted like 'the brain', Morello was the backing rhythm a lot but really more like soul of the song. The singer always seemed to say what the guitar was trying say.

The solos...eh. I always thought they sounded the same, none were that memorable for me (Bulls is great though).
 
I love Michael Hedges. I don't think he really belongs in a thread about rock guitarists but he certainly made some great music. This may sound like a weird question but you do know he's dead right? I only ask because you seem to be referring to him in the present tense in your post.

I think Boon deserves to be higher, Boon was by far one of the more gifted punk guitarists and he was a big influence on everything from RHCP to Fugazi, but yeah I like Mascis, I could see him going higher maybe.

Yes, I have. I actually met a one-time Fu Manchu meraber (he's leading a band called The Freeks now). I have In Search Of... and I regret ever purchasing it. I know they don't sound like Kyuss; Kyuss was good, and Homme didn't feel the need to employ distortion on every song. You're right: nobody sounded like FU. Nobody else wanted to. If you really do enjoy FU's sound than I suppose it would be folly to try to convince you otherwise. But I, I never enjoyed them. And I listened to enough of them to figure that out.
