I dont think thats gonna be as unpopular an opinion as you may think on this board.

Personlly I disagree but I'm almost certain theres a lot of Townshend and general Who indifference here.
 
Wow. Some interesting guesses on that question, but I disagree.

A guitarist is someone who plays guitar. Their only defining musical feature is playing the guitar.

A musician can be a guitarist, but to qualify as a musician, they must have an interest in making music rather than sheer technical skill. Their skill as a musician isn't determined by their technical skill but by the complexity and effectiveness of their work as a whole.

Technical skill will play a part hence why Guthrie Govan is a fantastic musician and Rusty Cooley is not. Guthrie knows his theory inside and out and can play accordingly, making him extremely versatile and capable outside of his staggering technical skill.

Rusty knows a lot of theory but its specific in nature and applies largely to his own playing style rather than giving him the ability to work in different contexts, hence why you don't see Rusty playing jazz licks and touring with the young punx at the same time.
 
Its not that great, he didn't write it, and its a really sloppy cover of it.

Also, its called the Star Spangled Banner. not 'The national anthem'.
 
There's a reason he calls himself Slash, it's because he wants to be called it. If he didn't everyone would just be calling him Saul HuRABon.
 
I wouldn't listen to Jimi Hendrix, but I do acknowledge his skill. I've seen videos of him playing... it's like the guitar is an extension of his body.

I always have doubt about Jimi Hendrix being the #1 guitar player. I think Jimi Hendrix is a amazing guitar player, but I am skeptical of how guitarist get rated. Yes he's great, but sometimes I wonder if people rank him nuraber one for reasons other then his guitar playing, do they rate Jimi Hendrix because he's got personality, he's cool? Is he more remeraber for what he did then what he played? Like at the Monterey Pop Festival, he got his freak on with his gutiar, burned it, smashed it, and he played at WooRABtock, the syzygy of sex, drugs and Rock and Roll for the baby boomers. Is that the critea for being the best guitar player? Does his showmanship upstage his playing?
 
I don't really understand the stylistic comparisons between Frusciante and Hendrix, granted I've only got two of his solo albums but there definitely isn't a bluesy or hard rock vibe in either of them.
Niandra Lades is mostly sparse acoustic arrangements with the electric guitar squalling in the background.

Someone want to post a song which illustrates the similarities?
