2-TV Solution: 2 Question as a 3 year old member decides to leave BTV

Right now, Shaw has a promotion on in my area. Turn in your Satellite Box, get 1 month free and a free HDPVR. Turn in 2 Sat Boxes, get a Cable box+HDPVR. That's worth a lot and I would not like to pass it up. However, the program requires you have owned boxes. Mine are rented.

I called Bell to see how much it would be to buy out the rental, they said they wouldn't do it. I have to go and buy new receivers either under a new 1 year term or no contract.

My question is:

Can I use a 2-TV Solution for this
and
Can I buy them under contract?

basically, the process of leaving bell, if this works, would be like so:

Switch to digi standard (save on last bill)
Purchase 2TV Solution outright @ a bell store.
Register both boxes
Cancel the account
Bring boxes to shaw.

Will this work?
 
I suppose maybe i'm gaining a bit of trust for them just because i'm out of contract. There is no "contract" for these boxes because I'm not signing.

Bell did say, however if I don't activate them, I will be charged $250.
 
You can never buy a rental unit... If you are reting an would like to buy the same model receiver you have to return your unit then buy the new one. All the money you gave as rental charge is not deducted from the purchase price



If you rent a new unit you have to sign a 1 year contract. If you purchase your receiver there is no contract to sign

You could also call Bell, say you want to cancel due to Shaw promo, it would be cheaper to buy their receiver instead of Bell. They will offer either 300$ credit to buy the 9242 or 1 year free rental
 
Okay, before I go through with this, I'm gonna get in touch with Bell's retention department. I'll keep you posted as to what I get.
 
As EX AGENT says, you can't buy a rental receiver... AND BEV will try to keep you if you tell them you're leaving.

That's what I did back in June - I told them that I was going to leave for Rogers because they were offering a deal to "pitch the dish" (or whatever they called it). Their (Rogers) website said that for each OWNED receiver that you turn in to them, they'll give an HDPVR free for two years.

HOWEVER, after talking to many many people within the various Rogers phone groups and Rogers store, they told me that I was wrong and that they would only give me "equivalent equipment". That means for each PVR, they would give me a HDPVR. If it was an SD box, I would get an SD box.

I fought them on that and "won"... They sent me to their customer fullfilment (or whatever Rogers calls it) - I had one 5900 PVR, a 3100 (regular SD box), and a 2700 (OLD SD box). They agreed to 2-HDPVRs and one HD non-pvr digital terminal, all free for two years.

So, all that being done, I then called Bell to cancel my account - they didn't want me to leave (I've been a customer for close to 8 years), so they offered me a free 9242 for a year (dual tuner HD PVR) and 40% off my programming for a year. SO - guess where I am now? ;)

Call BEV - they'll give you good deals to keep you... AND - I can re-evaluate again next June instead of TWO YEARS from now had I switched to Rogers. This new dual tuner ROCKS!:)

FYI - I just noticed that you mention SHAW, not ROGERS... can't speak to SHAW, but you should watch the fine print... chances are, they're not going to be much different from Rogers with respect to upgrading your equipment (if you own it). They probably won't just hand over premium equipment for "not so much premium equipment"... LOL
 
Thats a rip off if Shaw makes you give 2 BTV boxes for 1 HDPVR from Shaw. I tried that last year,, pretty much at this time of the year too, traded my 6100 for a DCT6416, after 6 month i had it with shaw, sold the box for 450 and picked up a 9242. Shaw has garbage HD, if you think BTV is bad.. lol and the motorola box,, its buggy as ****. So lesson learned.. BTV isisnt so bad.
 
StarNoChoice, the easiest way for you to do the Sat Winback with Shaw is to pick up a couple of old/used/broken receivers on craigslist or kijiji and trade those in. Since you are a Bell customer all you would need to give to Shaw would be the receivers and a copy of your latest bill. There is no way for Shaw to check whether these receivers were activated on your account. Myself and several friends have done this exact process with no problems.

and does shaw have more HD chsnnels or the same amount as bell? you gotta make sure of that before you rudh into this. sure you might think bell has bad service but you might go for better service and less channels
 
Shaw is getting a little tighter with the Winback promotion. A couple of things to be sure of:

- that your receiver has the smart card in it. I fought them a bit on it saying that the smart card was not my property. I eventually gave them an old Nagra 1 card that I had lying around from the previous card swap.

- They will ask you to turn over a copy of your current bill. I photocopied mine, then used a sharpie to black out most of my account numbers, then photocopied it again.

Other than that, unlike Rogers I did turn in a broken 3100 and got a brand new DCT3416 in return. (They made a mistake and the installer picked up a new instead of a refurbished one.)
 
Exactly my thought, get 2 old box's from somewhere, $40 -50 max. I do not think any receiver #'s are listed on your invoice so thats no problem at all.

Try a thrift shop etc, I have seen them around Toronto for as little as $20 each.
 
Bell has much more HD channels than Shaw - quite frankly more in count than any provider in the country. Shaw lacks large in this area..
 
bell has that fee for the activation of recievers because of piracy heck they are doing alot to try to combat this i hear a year ago there using single lnb's now instead od duel so people don't have that exra empty connection
 
Nah, we're gonna buy em fair and square. This expires on the 31st so I don't have lots of time to look around get 2 boxes on the grey market. We reserved 2 4100s at a Bell store in calgary. We won't even activate them. Apparently the 2TV solution is only online. We will do this:

1. Call bell and switch all program to Digital Standard.
2. Purchase 2 4100s.
3. Unbox them.
4. Cancel bell service.
5. Shaw time.
 
Reminder that EVU needs 30 day cancellation notice.

You might be able to leverage yourself a free EVU HDPVR when you cancel and/or get discount on programming to stay with EVU.
 
Thats a new one on me mickk, maybe they just found a box of single and decided to use them.....
 
well you know bell uses all the discontinued dishnetwork equipment.I was surprised too that i heard bell may be using dishplayer LNB's in some cases.
 
It is NOT grey Market, it is 100% legitimate.

Look in your local paper, you still have 12 days.
 
You are better off buying used equipment. Bell is VERY fussy about equipment that is not activated. The back charges for unactivated new equipment can amount to hundreds of dollars. Read the contract before even considering this! :eek:
