A guy I work with is going to sell me a 12" sub with a 425w amp (he has two 12" but one has a tear in it, he said I could have it for free, but will that distort the sound any?). He knows a lot about car audio and is going to help me install it. The only thing I'm unsure about, is right now whenever I turn my radio up pretty loud, eventually it will get really distorted. Is the amp going to help any with this or is it just due to the speakers?
Is it possible to send a shit-ton more current to the subs so that they are always hitting hard? I don't want to pay him for all of this and then have distortion. If anything, I would rather wait and buy new 5 1/4" speakers for car and then pay for the sub.
But if it will be fine right now without distortion, I would be glad with that. Thanks.
