OMG!!!

I just watched today a movie called 1984 and it is about big brother watching us and stuff.

After i watched this i got so freaked out and paranoid and it makes me think the exorcist and poltergeist are no way scary like this movie is 1984.

This is the movie i am talking about
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087803/

Does anyone else think this happens in real life? i am 100% certain it does in places like Bohemian Grove & Free Masons or Masons in the secret lodges i wonder if what happens in this movie really happens in real life too. Thats why i am so scared of joining the secret societies or even thinking about what they really get up to.

This movie is so freaking scary and it looks so real, i know its all stunts or special effects its just the way they done it really scared me. I now fear for the future.

After watching this movie there is no way i am ever again going to watch the television series of Big Brother on channel 4 that show does not exsist to me.

Read the book the film is based on. The film is good... the book will blow your mind. (And you'll be amazed at how much modern culture has been influenced by it).

Well if you havnt seen it in my opinion i dont think you should watch it, because it will scare you, it is a scary movie and we also have big brother these days, as the story is based on big brother. It scared the crap out of me and i was paranoid but now i am saying to myself "its just a movie based on a novel, and they are just telling a spooky story". So now i have calmed down, but i am warning you now it is really scary.

You have me really intrigued now :D

Have you seen a film called "Slashers"?
That is sort of old game reality tv. It is about a game show where you enter a scenario eg. wild west but if your killed you are killed.
Sort early but creepier version of "The Contenders" :) :)

The book is brilliant. I studied it for A Level (had to compare any two books, I chose this and Fight Club, odd selection but it got me an A!).

And watch Equilibrium too if you haven't already. Ignore that it says it's all about Matrix style effects, that's just rubbish. The 1984 parallels are much more obvious, and I enjoyed Equilibrium much more the second time when I was expecting 1984 more than The Matrix (which is my favourite film). Equilibrium is right up there now though, one of my favourites.

Haven't got round to watching the 1984 film yet though for some reason.

Oh I have Slashers on copy somewhere.
Where did you pick up "1984"?

Ahh yes "V 1984."

For some reason I thought that "V for Vendetta" was a remake of this film.

I remember more that song by the Eurythmics V 1984 :)

I agree, although it's a long time since a remember seeing the film, the book was much better. Similarly with this version of Orwell's Animal Farm.

If you've read the book and everything's recorded in your 'mind-eye', the film is normally not as good. Obviously if you never read the book, that's a different matter.

He wrote it in 1948, just swapped the numbers round. (Although most copies of the bok say it was released in 1949...... but I think you can safely presume he was writing it in the year previous to that...)

"1984" is one of my all time favourite books. Genuinely chilling. Would highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it. However, the film left me cold and did nothing for me.

There are numerous concepts as to the meaning of the title, and why it was chosen. The most common speculation is Orwell just simply flipped the last 2 digits of the year closest to its publication (1948/1984). However, some theoreticians believe Orwell was paying reference to the centenary of the Fabian Society, a Socialist organisation founded in 1884. It could also be allusion to Jack London's dystopian novel, 'The Iron Heel', about the rise of a proto fascist tyranny in which reached its height in 1984.

Another possibility could be derived from a poem written by his wife, Eileen O'Shaughnessy, called

Wonderful performance from Burton(his sadly penultimate performance).

The director asked him to tone down 'the Burton voice' in order to make O Brien even more chilling.Ironically Burton was fitter than he had been for a few years, having stopped drinking almost entirely and had had an op on his problem neck and shoulders(arthritis).

He was due to shoot Wild Geese 2 and several other films/TV inc allegedly taking over the mantle of Insp Maigret...

Studied this book at GCSE level, was fantastic. Although the book was written in 1948 it has loaRAB of predictions in technology i.e the 2 way video wall, big brother is watching you everywhere (just look on most street corners now).
