1984 movie

I havn't read this but have seen just bits of the film. Can anybody tell me anything similar between the predictions in it and what happens now?

And now it's over 20 years later anyways so it's not predicted the future much at all.

There is a city somewhere (video on youtube about this) where they have cameras but also have speakers attached to them so someone watching could see someone doing something (mostly just dropping litter) and could speak through a microphone from his control room to them to tell them to pick it up.

1984 is an excellent novel. It used to be one of my favourites. Unfortunately the film is not even half as good as the book. It is quite dark and I think it does capture the "look" of Orwell's world quite well.
I really can't see how anyone would think the film is scary, the book is far worse.
I used to have the film on an ex rental VHS cassette.
I think Orwell's predictions would have been more accurate for 2004.
Fortunately for us not much of it has come true in the terrifying way that Orwell portrayed. I think it has to be remembered that it was written immediately after the end of WW2/at the beginning of the cold war and the world must have been extremely paranoid at that time.
I have just seen "The Children of Men". I consider that to be a superior work in most respects.

I believe 1984 was written on the Scottish Island of Jura. It is hard to imagine how Orwell could have imagined the world he did while in such an idyllic setting.

I had to read 1984 for O-Grade English (that was back in 1984) we got to see the film after we had written our essays, it's a more depressing book, but, the film captures the dispair very well.
