i have an old ke100 kawasaki I found at the land fill looked pretty bad...all engine covers were broke and it looked like it hadnt run in a long long while....I put a used stator and flywheel in it....first kick,it started right up....ran so smooth....rode bike up and down alley for over a half hour....pulled into garage and it back fired and I havnt been able to start it again......What up with that

backfire on a 2 stroke means its outta time
check if the flywheel moved on the key shaft

Probably all gunked up in the carby, could be the ignition -plug, CDI etc. You'll figure it out - hey! what did it cost?Cheers buddy.

both other answers are worth looking into...also check the carb inlet manifold...it could also be a damaged disc valve not sealing..
ive restored a few of these...msg me your email addy and ill send you them if you like.
