1198R info

Long time reader first time poster...any info on when next year the bike is supposed to be released. I am itching between getting an 08 MV agusta or an 08 1098R....so far the Ducati is appealing to me more....

Sury,

I bought a 1098S and upgraded to the full termi, along w/ some clutch bling upgrades. when all was said and done i spent close to 25K. It hasn't escaped my notice that for this kind of change i could have bought an F4, (true, only the base model, but an F4 nonetheless!). And for another 2K you can get the upgraded F4.

By the time you upgrade the 1098 to an "S" to get the right suspension and rims, and then buy the right exhuast, you've spent enough for the MV. And the MV comes w/ the right exhaust and suspension and wheels, right out of the box. It's a tough call. IMO the MV is the only bike in the world that makes a Duc look like a Plain Jane.

Service and reliability is another issue. Servicing the MV makes Ducati service seem like a bargain.

I don't know, close call. You really can't go wrong either way. In the end you have to ask yourself whether you like the endless gobs of linear power you get from a V twin, or whether you prefer the arm wrenching power band of a transverse in-line 4. There's nothing quite like the sudden onslought of power when you hit 5,000 rpm on a 1 liter in-line 4. Hang on!!!!

If this is the kind of choice your debating consider yourself fortunate.

Thanks for the words mrinflux. I am giving myself plenty of lead time because I just want to pay the bike ff (whatever I get) outright with cash. That is the deal my gf made to me....I can get the bike I want as long as I dont do monthly...works fine for me cause that will force me to wait for the newer year bikes...

I am in the Dallas area so there are a few dealerships here that I am gonna go over to and get some firsthand looks on the Ducati and the Agusta and decide which one to go for.

The MV is great no doubt...and so is the Ducati. I guess I am gonna wait to see what editions MV launch for 2008 and what the 1098R looks like....and make my decision then. For now I am just going to absorb as much info on both the bikes as is possible...thanks once again.

Let me throw my $.02 worth in on THE dealer to see in Dallas. I drove up from Houston to pick up my new "S" from BMW of North Dallas last Friday. They were awesome to deal with. They diagnosed the stalling problem while I was still enroute and worked on it for 3 or 4 hours to get it corrected before I left with the bike. For my inconvience, they threw in some freebies and an "at cost" set of Termi slipons (installed). I'll be buying my next bike there, whenever that is. If they were closer I'd be taking my service work there, too. They've also got you covered on the MV, they sell both.
Talk to Mark, he won't steer you wrong.

Paul thanks for the post! I will definitely hit them up this weekend or so to check out both the bikes. That is quite awesome customer service indeed!

Ducati announced to the press on Friday that unless new WSBK rules are ratified making the 1200cc twins legal for World Superbike ASAP they will not be racing the series next season.

Stimac,

I'm not sure this lays anything to rest. Sure, Ducati says this now. But if WSBK does what is expected, (OK a bump to 1100cc instead of 1200 for V twins), Ducati will likely race the 1098 rather than not race. Ducati is just postering; it's part of negotiating. They're asking for 1200 hoping to get 1100. I wouldn't put too much stock in this latest release. Time will tell.

I am inclined to agree with mrinflux. I dont think the WSBK will allow for 1200cc. The Ducs are already really fast. I think 1098 will be the next bike for WSBK.

O.K. But it is geting kind of late to test and develop a new bike and team with no set plan.
No, this lays none to rest. Its just news.
I labeled it wrong, should have said "this says a lot" given past threats

Ducati's Minoli Stepping Down?
by dean adams
Monday, April 09, 2007
In today's PR-driven news climate, you've got no choice but to respect the CEO of a company who, when surrounded by a group of journalists says (loudly), 'Listen, off the record, we're not coming back here to race AMA next year. The AMA rules are a problem, the team is a problem and the sponsor is a problem. So, this is our last year.'

That was Ducati CEO Federico Minoli last year at the USGP.

I dont disagree, that is why I attached the results.

"Let's face it: in racing and in business, Ducati faces a task that, on paper, looks impossible. We produce and sell thirty to forty thousand bikes per year; Honda, nine million ... We are David fighting against Goliath. ... At this very minute, they are drooling over the 1098 ..."
