100 Greatest Stand-Ups 2010 (Next Friday)

I think Vine's on record as saying that he found the bit leading up to the laugh so nerve-wracking that he decided to shorten his jokes to the point where he could get laugh-laugh-laugh.

My opinion is that for the storytelling, observational sort of comedy, you need a huge charisma. In the end, people come as much to bask in your charisma as to hear your jokes: I'm sure this is true of the likes of Connolly, Izzard, and Gervais--none of whose material would be transferable to other acts.

Jimmy Carr, however, has minimal charisma but excellent, intelligent jokes and audience awareness. If you have strong, tight jokes, you will be instrinsically impressive: even if some audiences don't get it, others will. It's the writing, the writing, the writing.

Good to hear, like I said I have enjoyed what I have seen of him on tv but it has always been a bit samey to me. Will do a search and see if he is touring, I would like to see more of his act.

I would expect Sarah Silverman to jump into this list pretty high. She's become massive in a short time, and some of her material is very sharp. A comedian who, in my opinion, should be in any list of top stand-ups is the late Rodney Dangerfield: no idea why he wasn't on the last list--even less likely to be on this one, I suppose.

I ashamed to admit I haven't heard about some of the American's comedians some of the people on here have mention, but having give them a quick listen they seem great, definitely will look into them more.

Wow....if he didn't make the top 100 that's a complete insult. Mitch Hedberg was a funny guy....he was a proper comedian. He wasn't superficial like morons like Peter Kay. Kay shouldn't be ranked in the top 100 by proxy of the fact he never does stand up?.1 every 7 years then re-releases the same material on DVD every year. Rip off merchant and a fat money grubbing waster.

Mitch was awesome:

"I bought myself a parrot. The parrot talked. But it did not say, "I'm hungry,"... so it died. "

:D

I've mentioned it before in this thread but in 2005 there was the show The Comedian's Comedian which was the same as this only voted for by comedians and people working in comedy rather than the general public. The list is here: http://www.spiritus-temporis.com/the-comedian-s-comedian/the-list.html

I think it would be good to do an update of that list too, especially since it includes non-stand ups. Last night's show I felt had quite a few people who were't necessarily being chosen for their actual stand up.

Isn't this the list that ended up being a bit ridiculous with some odd placings and some random comedians that were barely known in this country? 'Cause the website allowed international voting...

Also having a set list of comedians to choose from is a pretty stupid way of doing it this time.
