100 Greatest Stand-Ups 2010 (Next Friday)

It would be a shame. He is a shameless gag merchant and has some of the cringingly bad jokes but that's the funny bit :D
It doesn't all have to be observational, political or have an adenda.

I saw his live show again the other month. It was on late night on CC just after I got in from the pub and I couldn't stop laughing :D
 
Not surprise to see Sean Hughes drop down a lot, I know he's highly rated by many but for my generation (I'm 20), he has never really been on the radar, apart from repeats of Buzzcocks.
 
I don't dislike Gervais, but there's no way he's better than Bill Hicks.

Some of Hicks' routines I've heard countless times and still get so much from them.

It was over an hour of non stop gags, I know that opinion is split on him but I'm definitely a fan.
 
...Seriously, I ask ANYONE out there to buy 3-4 George Carlin DVDS and then 3-4 Billy Connolly DVDS and then come back and tell me who HONESTLY is funnier. If you can after that STILL SAY Connolly is funnier I'll lose all hope in the future for mankind.
 
I was waiting for someone to say that. For me, its the reason why im watching it. Im waiting to see how highly he makes it. For me he would definately be in the top 5!
 
not if its got the title '100 greatest stand-ups'. if that was the case then the sun would journalistic excellence and eastenders, a drama on par with shakespeare. the comedians should have had the vote.
 
Cant stand many of these comics. Not likeable in the way say Tommy Cooper was. Everyone loved him and he didnt have to swear. Just his face made you burst out laughing.
 
Frankie Boyle- the Sun columnist? Horrid comedian as his 'jokes' about Down's Syndrome have proved...

...still like him more than Jim however and some of his jokes on Mock The Week are good :o

Very true. It's always the same whenever the public vote for their lists of "greatest"..whether it's sporting heroes, actors, comedians or anything else.
I can see the problem though, looking at the brief the clips, the acts I wanted to continue to watch were mainly the more recent comedians. I suppose that's because trends in comedy change.
I wouldn't argue with Billy Connolly at number 1. The list is about greatest ever, I wouldn't go far out of my way to catch Billy these days, but at his peak he was unsurpassable. On the other hand, I never caught Bill Hicks in his prime. I must look around for some of his material, it must have been almost life-changing to hear his take on the world..there aren't many around today you could say that about.
