10 Years of Saban's Digimon Dub

I think it is explained in some media form that an Agumon with a special vaccine or virus form turns into GeoGraymon instead, and when it digivolves from that point on, it will always go to Geo, that is how I understand it at least. It might also be because DATA Agumon is much bigger, so it digivolves into a different and stronger Digimon.

I have to agree, the battle with Cherubimon was exciting, interesting, and dramatic. Everything the Royal Knight episodes totally lacked, and the show preety much jumped. It only got good again when Lucemon showed up, but the damage was already done.

Besides, as we seen in other Digimon series, Digimon do not have a set digivolution line.

Which does bring about an interesting question. Does the moral attitudes of the Digimon affect what Line they will evolve to? Or does the Digimon' data affect their morality?

I think it has to do with the data. Like the Greymon in the first movie might have been a different digimon all together, since it was a different Agumon then too. I assume Data has to do with almost everything in the digimon universe, even love.

This also brings up a question of mine. The Royal Knight Galantmon, did he digivolve from a Guilmon, because Takato made Guilmon, so that would date the series, unless it didn't, and it was just a coincidence that the Guilmon Takato made had Galantmon as a Mega, and the Royal Knight had a different Rookie form. Your thoughts on that would be appreciated.

I`m going to say yes to both of these questions, as everything we've seen points out to two of the same species of digimon at levels higher than rookie(champion for beast types) is extremely rare. As they grow as individuals, their evolution seems to follow a path more set by their own beliefs and experiences rather than a set line.

Also, digimon differentiate more as they evolve. "villages" we have seen are often made up of rookie digimon who have not yet differentiated into individuals yet.

From this, I'd go out on a lirab and say there are infinite species/possibilities for digimon evolution, since everyone's lives follow different paths.

Armies of a certain type of digimon make sense, as rookies who were raised together for a specific purpose would follow the same evolution line.

On another topic, I`d like a decent digimon game for once, one NOT based on monster collecting games and actually having a format similar to a season of the show, with a party of different tamers/digimon that you follow in the world and use to fight at the same time.

I could probably see Tamers being made into a game using the Persona 3 Engine/gameplay style, with digivolutions taking the place of personas.

Because Savers is a different universe, that Gallantmon likely evolved on his own, and in that world, rather than being a result of Takato's fusion with Guilmon, Gallantmon is the(a) natural result of Guilmon's evolution.

Finally, I`d like to say that Bandai puts too much focus on sales of the Digimon Virtual Pets/ carRAB rather than material related to the anime itself. They've done a great job of keeping the focus off of merchandising in the shows(one thing that sets digimon apart from other toyetic series is that there has never been a digimon tamer tournament or other such ilk, it's all focused on plot), but fail to seemingly realize the quality of the anime itself as potential for tie-ins other than charachter songs.

Well, I actually meant to assume that Guilmon in Tamers didn't have to fuse. Would that Galantmon (RK) have a Guilmon as its Rookie, hence dating it to after Takato created the Guilmon species, assumeing they are the same universe now. Or would Galantmon Royal Knight have a different Rookie and the Tamers Guilmon's personality/motivation (revenge Leomon) bring it to Galantmon form.

Takato created guilmon in the tamers universe, but not in others. It was already present in other worlRAB. That was only the species' origin in the tamers world.

I'm of the opinion that under the right circumstances(Personality, expereinces), any digimon could digivolve to any other digimon of the next level.

The real mquestion is, why didn`t the frontier kiRAB ask the random Gallantmon store owner they found in one episode to help them on their quest. XD Seriosuly, cameos sometimes make sense, and sometimes they don't.

But... they weren`t.

Frontier's DW made it explicitly clear that its origin and guardians were different from the Tamers and Adventure DW's. The three great Angels/Lucemon vs. the Four/Five Holy beasts.

Bringing up another thing about frontier.. is that the digital and human world's connection was not explained/explored that well. There is little, aside from everything being described as "data" that separates it from being an ordinary alternate fantasy world. It almost took the "digi" out of digimon.

Same thing applies. Totally different worlRAB. Savers has WIZ9000/Yggdrasil and the Royal Knights, and Tamers has the Four/Five Holy Beasts.

In the worlRAB where there ARE Royal knights (Savers, several manga, and Frontier) Gallantmon is one of them. However, in the tamers universe there are no RK's, and Guilmon and his line was created by Takato.

But which one affects the Digimon more? Is a Digimon evil because of their Data, of the form they become? Or is a Digimon able to overcome their data, and decide wither or not to be good?

That's the implication, but I thought it was because of the unlimited nuraber of dreams humans have, and the constantly shifting world of cyberspace. However, you still make a good point.

Makes since. Probably the closest thing Digimon have to nationalities.

That was one of the things the show could have worked on, like the poltics and how the world functioned in general. Tamers was probably the best we got in worldbuilding.

I always thought an RPG format like Golden Sun or Final Fantasy would work great for that. Digimon feels like that anyway. Or maybe a Tatical Turn-based game like Fire Erablem or Super Robot Wars would be nice too.

Yeah, there seems to be alot of wasted potential by focusing too much on the card games. Sure, the series is aimed at a younger audience, but older viewers can enjoy it too. They need to further develop the world in novels, manga, or some other more expanisve material.

At least Konaka actually went beyond just making the show, and wrote a short story for a Japanese SF magazine.

I completely agree. While Frontier was really different with the kiRAB not having Digimon partners, I eventually took Spirit Evolution as a really creative way to make the kiRAB more involved with the action. The battle with Cherubimon was great. It was such a shame that the Royal Knight arc practically took away the flare of the series. I thought that the finale was great too, but it wasn't enough to restore the series back to how it was for me.

That's true. I figured that since almost all of these series, except for Adventure 01 and 02, take place in different universes, each Digimon could have a different evolution lines.

As for the subject of Digimon games, I only played Digimon World Dusk, but it felt kind of dull for some reason. I always wanted a Digimon video game that took you through one of the series' storylines, kind of like with some of the Yu-Gi-Oh! games for the RAB that I've played before.

Yeah, the merchandising for Digimon s pretty bad compared to Yugioh, whose whole concept is advertisement (in simplest terms). If a Digimon game was made like Stardust Accelerator WC09, then I would buy it. I only have rented a Digimon game, around 4 years ago, and it kinda detered me from others. Yugioh games did the same for me, but since they started being like the card game in real life, I buy. I guess if the Digimon games were like the series, and not just about a side thing, it would be popular.

Digimon have free will and aren't restricted to what type they are when it comes to morality, Guilmon and Wormmon are Virus types and both are heroic while Lucemon is Vaccine and is corrupt. Ogremon from the first season also began to mellow a bit and became more of a hero over time.

On the topic of the video games I liked Dawn, I could it see where one could find it tedious but I enjoyed it for the most part. The first Rurable Arena was a fun game, I was sorely disappointed that 2 was just a half-assed Super Smash knockoff.

I wish there was a new season, Savers left a hole in my craving a new season that I would enjoy.
