10 Years of Saban's Digimon Dub

Actually, Disney's been releasing the 90's X-Men series on DVD, and it's been selling very well. When they're done putting all of X-Men on DVD, maybe they'll release some of Saban's other series on DVD.

Anyway, back in 1999 - 2002, Digimon made Saturday mornings awesome. I remeraber seeing the first episode airing back in August 1999, and became hooked on the series. When I started to watch the series again on Toon Disney in 2007, I finally realized that this series had a bad dub, but even then, I still thought that it was great.

In my opinion, I think that Data Squad had the best dub, since it had only a few forced jokes, compared to the previous seasons.

The two sites I referenced don't say any hateful things, even though it is 4kiRAB dub, and not a Saban dub. We all know that Saban did a better job than 4kiRAB for the most part. So I guess I can't find a site set up in this format: http://gymleaderlance99.110rab.com/index.php?p=1_43 or this one http://yu-jyo.net/001/001.shtml with pictures and side notes and a summary of the episode to read.

The Digimon dub is a lot like Robotech. It served it's purpose and was great for it's time, but simply does not hold up nowadays, for many different reasons.

I can see why you would say that he's unnecessarily hateful towarRAB the dub, but I just kind of took those comments more like he was poking fun at it, kind of in the MST3K style, more than actual hatred towarRAB the dub. It might help that I didn't think that most of those added lines were really that weird or that bad though.

That's what I was thinking too. Regardless of his opinions on the lines, you can`t deny the fact that many normal sentances were replaced with Horrible puns and stupid jokes. It's like no one was allowed to talk normally. I don`t remeraber there being so many lines like that.

Yeah, he says right on the main site that it's meant to be taken as a MST3K type review. (I can't find it right now but, there was one update that if you (read as anyone) took it seriously, I'd look at you like "Oo".)

That makes sense. I didn't read the update, but I kind of thought that it was obviously just poking fun at all of the weird and bad dialogue that was in the dub, not actually hating it.

MST3K is shorthand for Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Oh, that's because no one wants to remeraber that abomination.
Darn right. I used to watch Digimon every afternoon and weekend. It was the best show on basic tv. Even if the TV was often filled with static for some weird reason.

Most shows you typically forget within a year. To this day, Digimon 01 is still remerabered and being broadcasted. Sure, it might not be the highest quality dub, but it still fun to watch.

What about the shows that last longer than a year, which is kinda every anime? Sure they aren't broadcast anymore, but they are not forgotten. Also, I don't think a show like Digimon could be looked at as an asset which distribution could be beneficial to, since the card series didn't do so well. As for the highest rating on Fox KiRAB, what else was on that network? I am kinda refering to the OP, on how Digimon could rival Pokemon, to which it never has, in terms of merchandising and ratings.

My favorite Seasons? 1,2, and 4.

Best dubbed even if the dub isn't a bad as %98 of anime fans put it? Frontier and Adventure 01.

Adventure 02 and the annoying jokes, Season 3 suffered the same problem but people forget because Tamers is everybody's favorite show. they ommited a lot of the religious references(Like Lopmon loosing his ability to Digivolve because he sinned, calling his master a God and saying he will punish him, etc.)

I seen the episodes dub and sub at the same time and I also read the Digimon Comparison website which makes me laugh out loud. For the most in Adventure 01 they evaded the direct punches, all buddist references, and of course some Japanese references were cut out. (Sora's mom being an artist of the Buddist flower style.. Joe chanting for Buddah in the ghost episode, The dog at the Shinguku park, The Food they were imagining, the song rhymes on the Kabuterimon episode) and I Understand that they edited out the religion and culture things. I mean... at the age of 10, how many know about Japanese Karoake or the Dog that waited faithfully for his master in front of the train station. I had to google it when I watched it uncut since the series doesn't explain you.

Sure now people may jump at me or whatever. But it's logical thinking specially on a business side.

I picked Data Squad, but if I had to make a list of the series (since that is what I watched):

1. Data Squad
2. Tamers
3. Frontier
4. 01
5. 02

Data Squad while falling to the foibles of the usual name changes stuff, kept itself serious for the majority part and on topic in terms of the dialogue. This helped out immensely since I always found the humour in dubbed Digimon forced. That said, while Tamers had its fair share of it when it got right down to it, it kept itself serious. However at the same time, they added so MANY unnecessary lines where silence probably should be. Digimon 01 was alright but as usual the jokes kindof ruined the experience ("WHY DO YOU HAVE THE PIZZA WHILE I HAVE TO EAT THE CRUSTS!?"), and 02... Whoof, don't get me started.

And Frontier... while a good dub it's kindof lower than Tamers with its flaws because it was for the majority part bland. Kindof like the show.

So yeah, Data Squad ftw.

As you may know, the show has been on tv until (the schedule cramping) XD came on and nuked JETIX... and as only one of the fans who paid attention to watching FOXKiRAB anime for comedy and action, i think i'll give noRAB to Toei and the Disney company for keeping it alive until the XD launch...

Data Squad abruptly ended after the XD launch, i mean, why can a good series and find no place to put it in after the switch survive...

I watched Adventures 1 and 2 and Tamers on tv, and the quality of originality surpassed all things about anime...

Anyways, congrats to the fans for keeping the spirit alive even though its in the XD abyss...

End point.

I rewatched all of the 01 dub recently, and noticed that the bad jokes don't really start until around the Dark Masters saga. Strange that Nimoy and Buccholz were forced to start making the series more jokey as the series progressed.

If you look at the Terrible rave Master dub, Bucholz did the same exact type of lame and inappropriate jokes that do not fit with what is on screen in there. Therefore, the fault is less with Nimoy and more with Bucholz

More likely, 4kiRAB would pick it up, if they had money for it. 4kiRAB is getting better though, so who knows if it would be a good thing. 5RAB is starting to look alright. And since 4kiRAB has that blog, you could just request for a change, and so far, most of them have gotten through to the producers, such as no catch phrase. I guess I am going a little too overboard, since no 6th Digimon would be made due to low merchandising and ratings in Japan. Whoever boguht the carRAB and actually knew how to play it.

I'm not so sure how likely it is for 4KiRAB to pick up a possible sixth Digimon series. I definitely wouldn't have a problem with them handling a Digimon series, but I'm just not sure if they would even have the chance to get it based on how Disney has handled the dub for the last three series.

I think that a sixth Digimon series is possible though. It might not come that soon, but that doesn't mean it won't ever come. Savers premiered in Japan three years after Frontier. Slayers had a new series about ten years after TRY, even though Slayers isn't a toyetic show like Digimon. Anyway, I'm just saying that a sixth series is a possibility.

My big question is, would it be better than a Saban dub, or the same old forced jokes? (keep in mind 4kiRAB has made me laugh a few times, unlike Digimon dub)
