The stars appear to revolve around the pole star (in the northern hemisphere), so If you point the camera at it and have a long enough shutter speed, they will produce traces around it, like the image in the link below.

Black and white has been obsolete for about fifty years.
The reason it's still alive is
1- It's "arty"
3- It's seen as somehow "true". Think about all the charity adverts that use black and white photos of suffering; they use it for a reason.
The trouble is that for every raving nutter in Pakistan, there are a thousand normal people who are just getting on with their lives.
