    Why doesn't my picture focus well when I have the flash off on my digital camera

    A flash emits a burst of light that is very fast. When it's on that effectively becomes your shutter speed (some flashes are 1/4000ths of a second) so anything lit by that brief flash is frozen. When it is off any motion during the window of time the shutter is open will be recorded as blur.

    It depends on the flash/camera combo. Some of the older flashes don't get along with the new DSLR cameras and can render your camera into a very expensive desk ornament. I don't understand everything about it, so I can't get specific, but I would do more research. Hate to see a good camera...
