    It's really a question of comfort and personal preference. None of today's manufacturers make a bad bike. If it was me, I'd go for the SV 650. Any Triumph dealers in your neck of the woods? The Street Triple (675cc) is SWEET.

    Are Hyosungs a joke, or a good alternative to the big name brand sport bikes?

    I wouldn't buy one. However, Kia seems to have made progress in building good cars. Maybe Hyosung will get better in a few years, but not now. I'm old enough to remember when "Made In Japan" was an insult.
