    Are fish color-blind?

    Fish are not color blind and in fact see a lot of colors. They are color blind at night since their photo receptors in their eyes basically shut down in the darkened waters. See link below for a study done on this subject.

    Sounds like a couple of problems here and both sound like like poor water quality. High ammonia levels and low oxygen level in the water. Make sure, when adding any any plants to the aquarium, that they are aquatic plants not ones for terrariums or house plants.
