The sequel (to the original 86' film) is bad on all counts. The remake is absolutely dreadful, I've seen it once and that was enough. The original is a great little film.

Peter Jackson is my favourite, he can handle low budget gore-fests and also has the ability to handle huge big budget action movies. The T-Rex fight in King Kong is breathtaking.

I've always fancied watching the original versions of The Ring. Daft question but I assume there are subtitles??? Does reading them take away some of the atmosphere???
