This is England! (Must See Film of 2007)

Its an outstanding piece of cinema by Shane Meadows, having the guts to make a film that is honest. The cast are amazing and Thomas Turgoose is a find.
It is semi-aubiographical and Shane said that when he met Thomas he said it was "like looking in the mirror twenty years ago"
The soundtrack brings back memories to anyone who is in their mid-thirties and the costumes are bang-on with eighties skinhead England.
I really enjoyed the performances especially Thomas and saw another side to Emmerdale's Eli as Woody.
Can't wait for Shane's next film.

I'd love to see it unfortunately neither of the cinemas near me are showing it even though they have about 30 screens between them. Huh.

Saw this on the weekend and thought it was a brilliant film. Great music, excellent performances, funny and menacing at the same time.

a room for romeo brass is a good place to start.

i loved this is england - apart from the tension throughout the second half of the film, i thought the mother was brilliant. her scenes with her son were very moving

The opening credits with the montage of all the old 80s clips with 54 - 46 (That's My Number) by Toots & The Maytals was one of the best beginnings to a film i've seen in the last few years.

I have to agree the opening sequence to this film is fantastic, clips of keys moments in the 80's coupled with 54-46 (That's my number)by The Maytals which is a classic Ska track. I felt it was a good film but not a masterpiece. I dont think it can be compared to a film like American History X.
