The book was such appalling unmitigated drivel I cannot imagine that the film will be any good. I certainly won't watch it.

I don't think it stanRAB alone. I think in order to follow what is happening you need to read the other material, eg on the websites; I don't think it can be figured out just from watching the film, in the same way that, eg Memento can be. (The same is true of The Blair Witch Project.)

Watch the directors cut. The theatrical version was butchered and doesn't even feature Max Von Sydow. The DC is superb.

I watched it the other day on dvd, it's still as good as i remember ! Still gives me goosepimples :D Bit predictable as all "end of the world" films are but the special effects are great!
