Er what? Judas Priest had 7 albums out before Iron Maiden recorded their first & were the biggest metal band in the UK in the late 70s. And I think you`ll find Metallica`s biggest influence was Diamond Head not Iron Maiden.

I would suggest starting from the beginning and working your way forward. The first album is by far the best work in my opinion, and it only gets better as Dave Grohl played all the instruments and wrote all the lyrics on the album.

I love Soundgarden, im just saying. If we are going by OF ALL TIME here, then i think The Moody Blues seriously deserve a mention.

Practice makes perfect, when I started writing songs a while back, I thought they were good, then I saved them and came across a couple of them recentely and they're a bit cringeworthy. Now I feel what I'm writing is much better, but no doubt in a while I'll write even better stuff. So hard...

Bear in mind the album doesn't exactly have to be lyrically uplifting or whatever. It can be one of those weird ones which has a pretty grim lyrical theme but gives off a strangely upbeat vibe musically. Alternately, if anyone else has any ideas, you're welcome to make them known!
