GI Joe (80's version): Guns, lots of guns. That turned out to be lasers, lots of lasers. That hit absolutely nothing. LAME. Along with many other elements of the 80's cartoon.

I don't recall any potty humor on the classic versions of Scooby Doo and Tom & Jerry and yet, both toons do well with todays audience. I simply go with the category that the suits like to assume that children in general are narrow minded.
