It's completly personal how powerful a song is and how much you think it speaks to you. "Hurt" is a good example of this. In my opinion, The Cash version is more personal in the way it was sung..but I don't mind agreeing to disagree.

Yeah you should probably try something simpler before you go straight for the bigger doses. Try laying down in the dark and concentrate. Make sure you are using headphones, and I'd reccommend Marijuanna first. It was the first one that really worked for me... guess it is a gateway drug.
