You may want to try a "soft reset" on both devices. I've had problems in the past with "beaming" and I've gone the soft reset route and beaming was enabled again. As for the beam receive setting, you only need beam receive "ON" on the receiving palm. I normally keep it "OFF" to conserve battery...
