Toon Zone Talkback - New "G.I. Joe" and "Transformers" Cartoon Series Being Cast

Yeah Smoov's funny and does some great voices but I can sound more like Peter Cullen than he does. Jon3pnt0 on the other hand has a pretty darn amazing Peter Cullen impression though it still has it's flaws. Really nobody can be Cullen but Cullen. ONLY Peter Cullen.

New G.I. Joe and TF series is expected given box office success. Hopefully these new series are worth while.

i've been saying it since forever: it's not too late to pick up the new tf series where g1 left off. it's the only thing that makes any type of sense. and the writing, animation, and voice casting possibilities make a new series not based on any of the old japanese toons or the horrid tf:animated totally plausible. it can be done successfully.

as far as gijoe is concerned, scrap anything that has anything to do with resolute. it totally sucked and was boring and too serious. that's now how people (should) recall a gijoe cartoon. if they're gonna redo it, it doesn't have to be japanese animated like that and sigma six. it could be a blend of the original series and possibly the comic books too. maybe even pick up where the live-action movie left off since it don't look like it's gonna have a sequel (the movie was damn good, btw imo).

Didn't the g1 toon end with Cybertron being restored to it's golden age and the Decepticons being defeated permanently? Wouldn't leave much room for a continuation.

cybertron was restored but the dcons weren't defeated permanently. hive leader/scorponok and galvs were the last image seen, drifting off into space in defeat but still intact like so many eps before it. totally possible to just pick up 5 or so years after that since it was around 2005 for the last season if i remember correctly.

by your logic, after the original tf movie, there shouldn't have been any other eps since it also appeared the dcons were soundly beaten there too. as we all know, that didn't happen.

let's look at gijoe. cobra-la toppled. that should've been it right? well, it wasn't.

Actually, the best bet for a new Joe cartoon would be to follow the Image comic from 2001. That had enough 80s cartoon references and still used new concepts, and its a shame it didnt last that long.

Anyone up for a Beast Wars revival? I am.

Although Animated is probably the closest we'll get to that.

Hopefully this new TF series won`t get cancelled because Hasbro wants to sell Transformers 3 Toys instead.

A Beast Wars revival wouldnt make sense really. BW had a beginning, a middle, and an end. A revival would just be a pointless remake (and while BW had the superior storytelling, i prefer my tv animation to be hand-drawn like TF:Animated).

I think any new TF series should focus on the first season G1 characters. Maybe not a true re-imagining, but looking at it from another angle. It should also look at the Autobot and Decepticon struggle on Cybertron and we can get a look at characters like Ultra Magnus.

That's okay, except G1 has been remade at least seven times by now.

It would just be really refreshing to see a transformers ANYTHING that isn`t a G1 rehash.

The only Transformer series I liked was Beast Wars. Hopefully the next one will be more Beast Wars and less Animated (which just felt like Teen Titans with Transformers paint to me), or at least a bit more serious/plot focused.

Lets hope the transformation sequences are better done this time around. No matter what you may think of G1, at least the transformation sequences were well-animated, which i cant say for some of the later entires in the series.

I was one of the few people I know who actually liked Transformer Animated so I kind of wish that the series lived on through another season or two, but at least something Transformers related is in the works for the near future. As it pertains to GI Joe, I say it's about damn time that something was in the works for a new animated series, it's been faaaar too long since GI Joe has graced a television screen.

Bring it on!!!! :D

For the upcoming Transformers series, I'm hoping it'll be a Beast Wars Animated series which picks up where Black Arachnia and Waspinator were left off from Transformers Animated. :D

actually, if you look at history, every generation since gen x has had a new gijoe toon. granted they all sucked, but there's always at some point been a joe toon.

as far as transformations, as long as they don't follow the japanese model, i'll be fine with whatever they do. no need to announce every attack or take a whole minute to show a transformation EVERY SINGLE TIME! that got real old, real quick. as opposed to g1 through the beast series', when they transformed, they just did it. attacks were differentiated by the laser sound. you know exactly what starscreams null ray sounds like. you know when optimus has shot his rifle. you know when megatron has shot at someone. all this 'tsunami blaster' and saying 'transform' outloud bs, c'mon, it's not necessary. RID through the unicron trilogy, i'll pass. but the RID toys were some damn good toys though...

Just base it on Resolute. Resolute was basically what we were all hoping Sigma Six would be and wasn't.

I've been annoyed with most of the Transformers media coming out since Animated ended, and I know there's no way they'll base it on the comics so...yeah. I'll take the wait and see approach.

Some new news via Action Figure Insider, though not necessarily good:

My suspicion that a new cartoon would look more like the movie and less like the traditional Joe grew just a little bit more, but it for-sure won't be Resolute-based.

There's been some speculation that the new Transformers show will be 'Power Core Combiners', based on trademarks and a leaked prototype. It's basically a -master/Armada gimmick done slightly better. There's also rumours that War for Cybertron is indeed an attempt to escape the somewhat cluttered 'multiverse' continuity that currently exists and set a new standard going forward. I'd be interested in that somewhat. Homages are cool, but TF is a franchise drowning in its attempts to please the nostalgia of 30 something fanboys.
