Every single cast member of the classic 1935 Laurel & Hardy movie Bonnie Scotland, also known as Heroes Of The Regiment on its US release, is now dead. As is the director, the producer, both screenwriters, the film editor and the special effects photographer. Surely the devil's work is afoot?

Probably not, but you have to accept that you're seeing it through very different eyes from when it was first released. The style may seem corny but it's a very sharp, intelligent film which tackles themes that are still topical today. When I saw the video of people queuing outside Northern Rock...
