Some fish take weeks to get comfortable! Just give him time. i bet when the lights are off he comes out! Do some research on bhim to mae sure it's habits ad such. some fish do hide all the time, regardless.

Certainly not a goldfish, not in an unfiltered tank of any size. Frankly, if you don't want plenty of headaches and money lost, do it rigth from the beginning. No fish can live in dirty water, which it will be minutes after you feed them if there is no filter. Oh, they might linger a few months...

a net will work. But be aware that this will disturb you tank and it will be cloudy for some time after. But make sure the filter is running as it should. also you will be removing some of the benecfial bactial in the tank so keep a close eye on the tank perimeters with water testing.
