Matte surfaces scratch easily too. I agree the back needs to be flat (unlike the iphone 3G) so it can lay flat but the corners don't need to be beveled. And even with matte surfaces you can give it some design character...

The thing is the interface and experience is the same as the 5800. The N97 isn't going to bring miracles if he doesn't like the 5800.
