Usually the most front terminal is No.1 and that looks roughly like what you have in the picture.
Depending on the previous work, it can actually be anywhere in the circle but most of us put 1 up front.
If the engine does not start then move the whole set of wires counter -clockwise one post...
Assuming the diode and resistor are in series, he current across the diode is the same as the resistor.
The Voltage drop across the resistor is calcualted by V =IR
and the Volage (reverse) across the diode is E -Vr
