Distributor on Ford F100?

Does it matter what plug goes where, I know there is an order, but say I have them in that firing order, but not sure where the first one is suppose to start, Ive been told the cap should have numbers on it and Ive been told it doesnt matter, the cap I have has no numbers on the outside or inside. Just wondering, heres a picture of it

Usually the most front terminal is No.1 and that looks roughly like what you have in the picture.
Depending on the previous work, it can actually be anywhere in the circle but most of us put 1 up front.
If the engine does not start then move the whole set of wires counter -clockwise one post and try again. Then repeat.

as long as the terminal on the inside is the same as the terminal on the outside, it doesn't matter, if not, then it does
