Zombies, Zombies and more Zombies!

Can anyone tell me why films featuring Zombies are so popular?

Personally, I would have thought that people would be bored of these type of movies by now.

Yep, you've guessed, I hate Zombie films except for Shawn of the Dead.

Do you agree there are too many Zombie movies ? or can you not get enough of these sort of films?

I love zombie films dave1976. I've been hooked on them since seeing George A Romero's output.
I can't stand Shawn of the Dead.

White Zombie is regarded as the first zombie film, back in 1932.

Romero's Zombie flicks are great, they could easily have been dumb gore flicks but he used the concept to make really poignant social comments, that are as relevant today as they were when originally made. And he is still making them, they still have something to say about how the world works, from consumerism to capitalism.

But, you say how you love Romero's film, then how can you dislike Shaun of the dead so much. SotD is a loving homage to these films, and show a lot of respect to them.

I personally have always been scared sh**less by zombies, and I don't think I've ever watched a particularly bad one (though I've not seen many of the 70's Italian efforts). I recently saw Outpost..... Nazi zombies, doesn't get freakier than that!

Nope, I love a good zombie movie me!

My favourite zombie films

Night of the Living Dead (original)
Dawn of the Dead (original)
Zombie
Day of the Dead (original)
Dead Set

Not particularly keen on Land and Diary, thought they were a bit boring as were the Night and Dawn remakes

I much prefer the slow-walking zombies as opposed to the olympic sprinters in later films

I've been a fan of zombie movies since I was terrified at the age of 13 by a Betamax copy of Zombie Flesh Eaters in the early 1980s. By the time I was 16, I'd been thrilled by Dawn of the Dead and then I saw the masterpiece The Beyond. At the age of 18, I went to the cinema to see Return of the Living Dead and went back the next day to see it again. I cannot count the number of times I've rewatched all those movies time and time again.

The thing about good zombie movies is the fight for survival in an increasingly difficult apocalyptic world. I really am one of those people who spenRAB idle mental time working out an escape route from wherever I am in the event of a sudden zombie outbreak. It will happen one day and then all you mockers will be sorry while I'll be making my way to freedom on the roof. And then to the island, any island.

My preference is for slow-moving Romero or Fulci zombies. They are relentlessly unstoppable and provide more of a foreboding ongoing threat. Return of the Living Dead not withstanding, fast zombies always seem a bit to much like being chased like a pack of wild dogs rather than concentrating on the horror of these being what we will all become.

Favourite zombie movies:

1. The Beyond
2. Dawn of the Dead (original)
3. Zombie Flesh Eaters
4. Return of the Living Dead
5. Brain Dead

You'll note that they're all from the 1980s which is either a reflection of the golden age of zombie movie making or symptomatic of the period I was most impressionable watching movies.

Dawn of the Dead 1978
Zombie Flesh Eaters 1979

But, i guess you'd have seen them in the 80's so fair enough.

And the stumbling, slow Zombies are better, fast ones just don't make sense. Dead people risen should be slow, bumbling monsters, all they know is to feed off flesh and brains, they have no real sense balance and orientation surely...... Zombies are real, right?

This has been very interesting to read.

The first horror film I saw, was when I was about 10 years old, it was Day of the Living Dead, my sister was flat sitting for my brother, she was about 18 and invited some frienRAB round. She didn't want me to stay, but as I wouldn't budge she decided to let me watch the film with them. What I saw completly freaked me out. So much so that, that when I got home, I puked up all over my Sunday Roast, when carving into my chicken later that evening. The next day, my mum found me in bed wearing her missing motorcyle helmet, as I didn't want the Zombies to rip my head off. To do this day, apart from Shaun of the Dead, I just cannot bring myself to watch it....

The first three Romero films are classics. Shaun of course was brilliant, and Zombieland is also very, very good.

Can't wait for World War Z, the book is incredible and if the movie does it justice it'll be amazing!

I like The Beyond, Zombie Flesh Eaters and City Of The Living Dead. I definetely agree the slow moving zombies were scarier. It aways got me that the people would just freeze and stare in terror, at the zombie in front of them. I'd be like screw this, run for it, I mean they would never catch you, lol.

No more popular than vampires at the moment - Twilight, Let The Rights One In, Thirst, 30 Days of Night, Lesbian Vampire Killers, The Vampire's Assistant, True Blood, Vampire Diaries, Being Human, Demons...

Some themes are just very popular.

While Romero's original trilogy is classic, my favorite zombie film remains an obscure 70s flic called The Messiah of Evil. I give it my highest recommendation.

I don't like zombie films that much, but I like the comedy versions like Shaun of the Dead and watched Zombieland, which I liked.

Zombieland was awesome!i love zombie movies 2,ever since i saw day of the dead back in the 80s ive been watching them, day and return of the living dead part 2 are my favs,if u ask me there isnt enough decent zombie movies.
