I saw *most* of this episode---thanks to my poor cable TV reception on my Kids' WB station, I didn't get to see the new episode last week, and couldn't see part of the first half of this episode (but still heard the audio). I was really hoping to see what their depiction of young (pre-"Pup Named Scooby Doo" I assume) Shaggy looked like (anyone with any screen shots of this?).
Comments:
- As the above poster noted, I also don't care for the idea that Shaggy had a different dog before Scooby came along (more OK somewhat with Scooby having had a different owner before Shaggy, though it reminds me of Snoopy's backstory in "Peanuts" having had briefly a different owner before Charlie Brown). "Zoinks" if anything looks more like the type of dog Shaggy's *mother* might've had (which might be a way to explain him away), vs. the kind of dog Shaggy would've chosen.
Hmm, for that matter, I don't think there's been a real "how Shaggy got Scooby" "origin story" at all in any of the Scooby spinoffs (there's "Scooby Goes Hollywood"'s version, but given the ages of the gang/lack of Shaggy being present when he's shown being bought(!)/the "Roger Rabbit" setup of the whole special, etc., can't imagine that "counting" at all). Though I always just assumed Shaggy's parents took him to buy a puppy when Shag was quite young, and Shaggy wound up getting (puppy) Scoob as a pet and lifelong friend...
- Liked the bits with the lasers somehow hitting Phibes (and the remark by Dr. Trebla about "even money" on the multiple-laser-shots hitting him at the end).
Next week looks like the whole "Dr. Albert as Trebla" subplot might move forward--wonder if Phibes finally figures it out, or something...
