No, that is exactly what happens. Play Dark Cloud 2 and then play TP, you'll be bumping into doors a lot. In TP you have to get into just the right place, inch yourself forward until the "Press A button to open" flashes on-screen. Not so with DC2, there the transition is flawless, you go up to a door, you press a button, the animation kicks in and he glides through the door, correcting itself as it nears the door.
Play the GC TP version then see if you're not bumping into walls when you play the Wii version. It just happens.
