Zantac and Prescription Zantac any difference?

I was on prescription Zantac but it was called a different name - then my new insurance wouldn't cover it anymore and they told me to buy over the counter Zantac - this was supposed to be the same thing. I started to take the Zantac but it doesn't seem to work like the prescription kind. I have acid coming into my throat. So my question is there any difference?
 
Did you check the dosage out? Usually the Mg is lower on OTC than on a prescription.

The prescription name is called Ranitidine, the generic for Zantac. Dosage is 150MG. To get the equivelent in the OTC version you have to buy the maxium strength which is 150MG.
 
It's probably a lower dosage than the Rx.

My own pharmacy suggested I switch from Rx Prevacid to OTC Prevacid and the OTC is 1/2 the dose so I can take 2 to get the same dose. Zantac may be similar. You could ask your pharmacist- they will advise you free of charge.
 
Rx strength also comes in 300mg. You can take 2 of the 150mg OTC Zantac. I was on that dose for quite a while before the PPIs came out. I actually still take 300mg Zantac before bedtime in addition to Dexilant 60mg in the am.
