Hello, all.

I'd like to present to you my z400 firmware mod v. 2.o

Disclaimer:

Art Nouveau mod is being published only on educational purposes. It is also intended only to a private use. The author takes NO responsibility for improper use or any accidental damage caused by this firmware.

It has been tested on my[author's] phone [two different z400s], as well as by many other users and it works perfectly fine.

Both of the previous versions 1.o and 1.1 has been downloaded over 600 times, and there was no sigle complaint.


What is Art Nouveau mod? [furhter called: ANm]

ANm is a modified vodafone firmware [the best that was on the market - z400buff5] that uses all of it's funcionality, yet it adds some extra features as well as some of debranding.

This mod allows to:

- watch movies on fullscreen!
- full acces to SD card
- install java on SD card!
- install java from PC – no internet connection necessary!
- it allows to filesystem acces JSR-75 MIDP permissions
- it lets you use themes to customize your phone!
- this FW doesn't set pre-installed folders on your SD card!
- it's partially debranded
- lot's of icons and graphics changed
- other features listed later



To instal ANm on your phone you must download the FW package. [4 files]

The thing that you get is a readymade fully functional firmware.


!!!! Since you have to upload [on the handset] all the FW files it is advisable to back up any of the telephone files! All telephone data, photos, text messages, mp3s as well as on phone contacts data that are in phone's memory will be deleted.


This don't affect SIM card data or SD card card data, they are safe and can be inside of the phone during flashing, although it may be better to take them out before flashing.


How to upload ANm:

1. You need fully CHARGED phone, standard z400 usb cable, FW package.

2. Turn the phone off.

3. Run FastMultiLoader [FML] version 5.40 included in the package

4. Press together ”9” and power on/off key [the red receiver symbol] keys

The telephone should show:
"SGH-Z400 DOWNLOAD"

5. Connect the telephone to the USB cable.

6.At the bottom of FastMultiLoader you should see DetectCOMxxPort
[where xx is for port number], down there you should also see:
COMxx Ready...

7. In FML chose Control - SMP6275.

8.Click on Modem choose ANm_stn_2.0_ang.bin file.

9. Click on Rsrc1 choose ANm_stn_2.0_ang.rc1file.

10. Click on Rsrc2 choose ANm_stn_2.0_ang.rc2 file.

11.Click on FactoryFS choose ANm_stn_2.0_ang.ffs file.

Before pressing download check [ADDR(h)] field, on the right. The values that should be are:

amss/modem - 0x100000
rsrc1 - 0x2b00000
rsrc2 - 0x4000000
ffs -0x4a00000

If everything's ok continue following this instruction.


12. Click Download.

13. Leave the FML so it can uplad ALL files

14. After 5-10 minutes it should finish uplodnig. On telephone screen you should see starting animation for a moment and then a blue screen. It's perfectly OK, don't worry.

15. Now the telephone will show you 3 messages and after each it'll ask to wait couple of seconds, leave it to do it. Then it restarts.


16. The phone should now restart and ask you for PIN number.

Changelog: [according to the original z400buff5] and according to v 1.1 in green


Languages:

* the thelephone now starts with pre set English language ang English t9

the major part of the working time on this FW was spent on adding proper Polish translation and working Polish t9 dictionary. The ones which were in this FW were only partially working.

- Polish language and t9 dict. is instead of Turkish

Service codes

* all fo the service codes have been changed accordingly:
- admin menu: *#00*# [from *#3695147*#]
- internals: *#00*# [from *#3971258*#]
- pre-configuration: *#00*# [from *#83301*#]

Java

* you can install java applicatins easily on your SD card. it's just enough to
make a directory named Java on the SD and put all the files inside so you
don't have to install applications via OTA [via grps/edge]

tip: if you have already spme aplications on SD card rename the folder they are in to Java ande make update java DB. if you alreqady have them in Java folder [form v 1.1] just put the SD in and use update java DB

REMEMBER to put all the appications/games in separate subfolders!

so the tree should look like this:
SD card/
Java
opera
*.jad
*.jar
game1
*.jad
*.jar
quake
*.jad
*.jar
etc.

!!!Remeber!!! after uploading new java apps/games remember to update java DataBase! In order to do that foolow this instruction:


- enter code *#00*# -> telephone goes into admin menu
.choose 4.internals
.enter *#00*#, accept -> you go into internals
.choose 7 storage setting
.choose 2 update java DB
.press power on/off buton shorly to quit admin menu

- All instaled this way apps/games are in:
.menu >.7 organiser and tools>.2 applications

- !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On this FW the telephone has acces to filesystem [JSR-75 MIDP permissions]
It was not possible on any other FWs.

Some of the aaps that need acces to filesystem [ LSP, minicmd, etc.]may
ask you for the permission. In order to avoid constant enquires I have
found a nice solution. In order to apply it you have to:

.1 open app folder
.2 find inside subfolder: appdb
.3 copy into it file: kjxsettings.bin
.4 manually override permissions,
a) menu >.7 organiser and tools >.2 aplications
b) choose app you want to mod
c) left soft key> .7 advanced > permissions:
d) choose: Allow personal data acces
and
Allow personal data modification

e) choose always allow and voila!

.5 !how to get kjxsettings.bin file? it's:
a) packed with ANm folder: java> kjxsettijgs.bin
b) in the phone, not visible in phone menu but you can see it using
bitpim, folder: SystemFS> Media> Other Documents
c) you should have it when you install apps via OTA
[via wap/gprs]

Changes in gfx.

* telephone starts with totaly new theme stn_green which looks great on the phone!

* some icons have been changed:
- main screen: antenna, battery, SD card, edge, gprs, 3g
- menu screen : battery, gprs,edge, sd card
- some of the internal info, querry, and other icons were changed so they now match the ones in the theme menu

- totally new theme stn_green that gives the phone great and fresh look

* telephone starts with pre loaded theme, but internal on/off animations are vodafone, in order to change it reinstall stn_green theme again, then it starts with stn theme on/off animations

Other

* Removed Live! [vodafone] button from main screen

* restored funcionality to soft keys
- left soft key goes into create message menu
- center: menu
- right soft key goes into contacts

- the inscriptions/icons of the soft keys were removed so they don't spoil the screen


* Removed internal internet branding
- no first menu position which directed you to vodafone
- no vodafone links: news,sport etc
- no vodafone link in bookmarks

Thx for this great job. I'll try this, but as you said, prior to the installation, we need to backup sms, files etc... Do you know a software who allox to do this? I can't do it with pc studio, the icons dont show. By the way, with your firmware do you think that it's possible?

this firmware should start in english, so i don't get the thing with changing language..

operator code - which one? the one for pre-configuration as well as all masters are *#00*#

this mod was optimized only on default pre conf so using any other may like contry dependent may bring some changes

in polish I can recommend samsung-mobile.pl - the best polish forum for samsungs

with the messages it should be quite easy, it's just enought to use bitpim and download on your hdd files from User/Msg/SMS the same might be true of mms or emails and then after flashing put them back into the ame catologue of the phone, it works if you have the same fw. I'm not shure though how it looks like from two different firmwares.. and contacts migh be problematic. I know that buff5 on which the mode is based uses some online synchronisation, yet never tried to do this myself.. on of the options would be to copy them onto sim card.. not solving the whole problem though

I know this is a bit inconvinient, yet the voda buff5 was the best fw to modify allowing many usefull features as java file acces, fullscreen movies and as maybe i didn't mention there is also a menu difference. There are 12 instead of 9 icons and a possibility to use themes, will have some time when I come back this evening I'll try to upload either some photos fo the phone working with it or gfx form theme as to give you idea how it looks like on the phone

Thx for your help, I knox the sim card trick, but i have 245 sms and mms and i have to save them... I tried mobiledit without success... I'm searching for a solution before flashing the phone with yor mod.

Yep, that's the code I wanted, but I think I'll leave it alone if it might change anything too much!

Ok, sorry to be such a pain in the *** but do I need to install actual Java on to the phone or is it already on the phone? Because I've tried putting (Java) games on my SD card (following the instructions and making sure I update the Java DB at the end) but nothing happens, it's on the card but not installed anywhere on the phone. I am using a card reader and just copying files from my computer to my memory card. I also can't get TKFileExplorer to work (it keeps saying it can't open the port) and I think I got BitPim to work but it looked very advanced and I couldn't find any support for the SD card in it, so I couldn't use that to install the files. Any help you could give me would me great :-)
 
Sorry, I've now managed to get Opera Mini to work but no games. Does it require to always have a .jad file too? I think that might be the problem because all the games I have are only .jar files :-)

fitre bitpim,
in setting choose other cdma phone [don''t use auto detect]

in port look for the one named qualcomm diagnostic port 3197 and choose it

now you should get acces to the telephone

how to use it is on forum, remember to be in samsung usb mode here

yep, you haven't read the instructions carefully, two files per folder, .jad and .jar [ you can use jadmaker to make .jads] sis not supported since it's not a symbian

you should put games in Java folder on the Sd card - capitalized "J" each game in a spearate subfolder two files [jad ,jar] per game/app

do you have the green menu? if the dark grey one you have 1.1 version

wish you luck with Polish, i's much harder to learn than Eglish :>

Sorry about the stupid question about .sis files, I don't know much about phones...hehe (I am quite good with PCs though)
I have 2.0 with the green menu, it looks awesome by the way! Thanks again for this awesome work.
And thank you for the wishes, I am definitely finding it hard to learn, especially writing in Polish. I can just about pronounce most words now, but I still think saying "sorry" in Polish sounds like a sneeze! lol

thx for the support, I think i'll install your mod this night or tomorrow morning, now i'm trying to backup my sms. no success with bitpim. but i think he'll work with your mod. z400 is a good phone except that i can't backup my data. anyways i'll try to do something with tk explorer. If you hafe good advice you're welcome. I have coffee and long night...
 
delete bitpim
use either admin menu or quick menu to change usb type

type code [as you'd type phone number] *#123580#

you should have a menu on screen type accordingly 9 > 6 > and you should see 3 types of usb mode press 2 for qualcomm usb

unpack this driver http://www.box.net/shared/5udqnir48s

plug the cable to the phone than to the pc

it should find a new device and ask for drivers, point to this cataloge it should install 2 devices

run bitpim

go settings mode

choose manualy other cdma phone

than go to port mode and try to see what's available - browse and choose the available one thath is marked as us
diagnostic interface

now check the option to see filesystem

it should work

Finally i install your mod, no pb for installation, but when i restart the phone i have message error and the phone freeze. I'm going to sleep, tomorrow i'll see and i'll try to get the message error for you. Thanks for your help...

Now it's good, and i found a trick to restore my sms and some of my old settings, i'll give explications later. Great jod on this mod.
